@@@@@@@ BACKGROUND There’s not much about Son La that puts it on the map, but it does serve as a transit point between Hanoi and Dien Bien Phu. It sits on a high plateau and the surrounding scenery is impressive, however there is a shocking amount of deforestation that has occurred. There is an old restored French prison where people resisting the colonization of Vietnam were imprisoned. Apr 9, 2006 - Hanoi/Mai Chau/Son La/Quynh Nhai/Thuan Chau

Our jeep driver and guide arrived at 8am at the "Lucky Star" hotel promptly at 8am and we were off on our 8 day trip through the northwest to Sapa. We stopped at the museum in Hanoi for an introduction to some of the history and culture of the 54 minorities that live in Vietnam. In particular the 5 or 6 that we would be coming across and visiting in their villages throughout the northwest route. Mar 24, 2006 - Son La (02/03/06)

Deuxième étape du tour. Pour l'instant, les routes sont belles et les paysages de rizières très beaux. C'est assez impressionnant de traverser tous ces villages en route et de croiser les villageois aux costumes traditionnels très colorés. Egalement beaucoup d'animaux (buffles, poules, cochons, chiens...) au bord, voire sur les routes, et qu'il faut bien-sûr éviter d'écraser... Zweite Etappe unserer Tour.
