Sunday was the first of our long drive days. We were heading down for a night in Mai Chau, a little countryside town surrounded by mountains and local villages to do a bit of cycling and see some some of the lifestyle outside of the town. Unfortunately I has started to feel a bit sick the in the morning and this got bad to worse as the day went on. Oct 7, 2010 - Mai Chau

We drove West from Hanoi, past rice fields, busy villages and interesting limestone formations and we got progressively higher until we were at the top of a pass in Hoa Binh province overlooking the town of Mai Chau. We picked up a local guide (who turned out to also be one of our hosts) and she took us on a 5 hour walk through the country side and past White and Black Hill Tribe villages. These ethnic groups are minorities in Vietnam and the women of the different ethnic groups wear different coloured bright skirts. It was a pleasant walk...

My friends! Although Vietnam is a developing country, but it also has its own beautiful places and some things that make u admired. And one of the beautiful places is Mai Chau valley. May be most of u have never heard about this valley. But in this site there is another entry which is about a trip in Mai Chau valley: "Wrong turn, Right direction - Lost". "Wrong Turn, Right Direction - Lost" Mai Chau, Vietnam February 28, 2008 (written Hanoi, 29 February 2008) The driver (Mr. Khier) turned the wrong way while the guide (Mr. Tran Binh Nguyen) was sleeping. He had asked me earlier if it was ok if he took a nap (the guide not the driver!) I had never been asked this before, but since I was the only tourist in the van, I didn't see why not.
