Jul 19, 2017 - Kleren passen

Rustig dagje verder....

Jul 18, 2017 - Vrije tijd in Hoi An

Feb 23, 2017 - Silk & Silver - a costly day in Vietnam

Silk & Silver – a costly day in Vietnam Feb 23 2017 Hoi An, Vietnam I’ve been compiling a list of interesting spellings on signs, menus and advertising. I’ll just let them out in dribs and drabs along the way. I like to call this item: “I’ll bet a native English speaker would have done the editing for you for free if you’d asked”. Here goes: • Come visit our Traditional Artisan Craftship • We make delicious amellettes • Hong Kong’s Best Souvernir Shop • Latest fashions from Givenche • We are famous for our pancakes and marple syrup •...

Feb 23, 2017 - Off to Ha Noi

1 hour flight Vietjet Airbus 320 to Han Noi Taxi picked us up with 'Timothy Hundy'plaque. Mad half hour mad drive to Ha Noi.... much more cold but lovely place and nice hotel 'Maison de Hanoi' Tim bought me a purple 'North Face' down jacket which probably isn't down but much warmer than the one I had. Very pleased. Gave nmy old one (waffer thin) to a fruit lady as decided if she sold any bananas she'd make peanuts! Delighted to see her wearing it half an hour later. Pot noodle for tea in our Boutique Hotel.

Feb 22, 2017 - Beach Day

Beach Day Feb 22, 2017 The motorcycle is the mode of transport of choice in Vietnam. For every car on the streets, there are easily 100 motorcycles. I'm not sure when the market driven Doi Moi policy allowed the annual average salary to rise sufficiently so that they became affordable enough to supplant pedal powered bicycles but everyone and everything is on a motorcycle here, aside from the two of us. There must be a law that requires double or triple mufflers on them as they make virtually no noise. Other than the little 'meep meep'...

Feb 22, 2017 - Last day in Hoi An

Up early to explore without the heat. Took a free bike each from our hotel for an hour (rowing) . School children in school opposite the back of our hotel were exercising to some music on a loud speaker. Walked around 3 - 4 top sights in Hoi An according to Lonely Planet. Bought 8 graters to make green mango salad etc. 100,000d for the 8 about 44p each. Reading & planning in PM. Decided not to go to Krabi as £110 each on the plane.(after hours of looking). Went to our usual bar / restaurant where the beers are 20,000 for 2 large bottles...

Feb 21, 2017 - What Brooks Brothers doesn't know won't hurt them....

What Brooks Brothers doesn't know won't hurt them ... Feb 21, 2017 I paid too much to the roaming street peddler lady for the little plastic bag of shredded sugar-coated dried coconut strips.  I knew it the moment I forked over 50,000 Dong for those little shreds of happiness from the look in the eyes of our server at the Green Pineapple restaurant where we ate Green Papaya salad for lunch (as opposed to the Green Chili restaurant where we ate dinner).  The look from our server was a combination of "You dumb tourists will pay anything" and...

Feb 20, 2017 - Off to Hoi An

Taxi to airport booked thru Madame Cuc's Checked our bags in, waiting at gate, Tim went for smoke as nervous. Young check-in lad approached me (doing my Sudoku) to say Tim has bullets in his bag! After he did a call out for Tim on the tannoy. We eventually located him and went all the way back to check-in where 2 biffa's in uniform pointed at the sign which had no bullets on it! Anyway, bullets were retained & on we went. Just over an hour flight to Danang, Tim sat next to a young Vietnamese lad who was on his first flight which was great!...

Feb 20, 2017 - For an extra $10

For an extra $10 Feb 20 2017 It was very hard to tear ourselves away from our coddled lodgings at the Pilgrimage Village Boutique Hotel & Resort & Spa & all around gorgeousness in Hue but it’s time to move on and so, like all Pilgrims, we dutifully packed up our meagre belongings (what is happening in my suitcase – why is it getting heavier when I’m not looking?) and had the bellboy schlep them to the lobby (it must have been heavy for him, too) where Mr. Hung (‘Call me Nick’) was waiting to drive us in his Toyota Fortuna SUV to our next...

Jan 16, 2017 - Oh Hoi An, so pretty (and so many clothes!)

We were met at the airport by Hanh who was going to be our tour guide for our time in Hoi An and Hue. A quick 40minute drive from Danang and we arrived in the beautiful Hoi An, the town is famous for the picturesque lanterns and incredibly priced tailored clothes. We agreed with Hanh that we would stop at a tailor this evening in order to start the clothes making process off…this would give us some extra times for fittings and adjustments as they are needed. I arranged to have a trouser, skirt and jacket suit made, while mum ordered some...

Apr 2, 2016 - Hoi An, the middle of Vietnam

Those of us on the optional tour, went on a boat cruise on Thu Bon River which runs through Hoi An this morning. What a step back in time to float calmly up the river and see the local people going about their daily lives, bathing, washing clothes, fishing. We saw water coconut palms and betel palms growing along the riverbanks. The sight of the fishing nets suspended on bamboo poles high up above the water, moving in the gentle breeze of this morning was lovely. These nets are lowered into the river at night and then hauled up in the...
