Jul 12, 2017 - Druk dagje Hanoi

Feb 12, 2017 - The Hanoi Hilton – History is written by the winner

The Hanoi Hilton – History is written by the winner Feb 12 2017 Did you ever wash your running shoes? Me neither. Frankly, the thought would never occur to me. Ever enterprising, however, the running shoe washing men of Hanoi seem to have carved out a niche market. Armed with little more than a tube of glue and a toothbrush, they will assault your running shoes, if either of them remain in a prone position for more than 5 seconds. Tourists in Hanoi are often standing around, usually at street corners, doing one of two things: 1. Figuring...

Feb 11, 2017 - A Shabbes visit with Uncle Ho

A Shabbes visit with Uncle Ho Feb 11 2017 First off, I’ve gotta tell you, he looks pretty good for a guy who’s been dead since 1969. You’ll have to take my word for it because not only are you forbidden to talk while you walk (somewhat briskly, no dilly-dallying) single file on the red carpet around his glass-encased chemically-embalmed corpse but there’s no talking, murmuring, chewing gum or whispering allowed either. In addition, your hands can’t be in your pockets and your arms can’t be crossed. That was a lot of rules and so I just...

Feb 10, 2017 - Hanoi is trying to kill me (or at least my pants) - Part Deux

Hanoi is trying to kill me (or at least my pants) – Part Deux Feb 10 2017 A couple of weeks ago back in Edmonton we got a big tip from our friend Elly Vogel. She told us that we are going to LOVE the food in Vietnam and, in particular, that one spring roll is better than the next. In fact, Vietnam is spring roll heaven. Elly is 10. And she knows her spring rolls! She also told us to avoid the washroom in train stations. It’s useful tips like these that make good friends, I say. And Elly is right – the food here is amazing. Our daughter Liz...

Feb 10, 2017 - Hanoi is trying to kill me (or at least my pants) - Part 1

Hanoi is trying to kill me (or at least my pants) – Part 1 Feb 10 2017 When last we checked in, Me was about to hit the streets in Hanoi. As it turns out, the streets hit me. Well, a motorcycle clipped me and the little blue stool I was sitting on at a ‘restaurant’ tipped over and I made an (albeit kind of slow motion) visit to the sidewalk ‘patio’. The important thing is that the schmutz on my pants from the patio can be washed and cleaned up. Although the hole in them made by the motorcycle will leave a mark. And the hole in my shin...

Feb 9, 2017 - Gooood Morning Vietnam!

Gooood Morning Vietnam! Feb. 9, 2017 Well, you had to know that blog post title was coming. I asked Debbie this afternoon if there was ever a point in her life where she thought she’d be sitting in a park in central Hanoi drinking tea. She admitted it had really never seemed possible. But you never saw anyone so giddy upon arrival at the airport in Hanoi yesterday afternoon after a quick 2-hour flight over from Hong Kong. She’s an American in North Vietnam and she’s touring with Hanoi Howie so hold onto your hats. Sidebar: Here’s something...

Jan 7, 2017 - 9mil people...4mil scooters....welcome to Hanoi

Last time I wrote I was sitting at Hanoi airport waiting for mum to join me for our Vietnamese / Cambodian adventure! She arrived without incident, texting me when she landed I told her to head straight to the visa desk (not stopping for the loo!) to prevent the process being longer than was necessary. After a quick chicken and chips meal (very authentic) I met with our tour guide ‘Tung’ who was waiting for us at arrivals and we waited for mum to appear. Before long I saw her waiting for her case and then she found us. I was very pleased to...

Dec 21, 2016 - Bangkok/Hanoi/Cat Ba/Ninh Binh/Dong Hoi/Phong Nha/Hoi An

Flew from Bangkok to Hanoi. Wonderfully cool compared to Thailand. Stayed at Mercure Le Gare in Hanoi – 9th floor, triple glazed to keep out the traffic noise. Nice room and in an unexplored part of town. Take 4 million motorbikes, 7.5 million people all using the roads at the same time – Hanoi in a nutshell. Unbelievably noisy, frantic, busy city with broken footpaths, every inch being used as bike parking or food stalls. The roads are full to bursting with beeping motorbikes weaving in and out, on the wrong side of the road, in fact...

Aug 9, 2016 - Marketing and Communication Skill Design

Marketing and communication skill design on a website can identify what works for its target market including customers and representatives. This can be an age group, top interest or particular strand of culture, thus the designers can understand and catch the trends of consumption. Designers must also understand and use well the type of website they are designing, meaning, for example, that e-commerce website design considerations might differ greatly from a customer targeted website such as a sales, tourism or restaurant website. Careful...
