Jan 8, 2014 - Days 142 to 144 - Dalat, Vietnam

I arrived in Dalat on Monday 6th January and, as the hotel linked to the bus company was full, I was taken to a decent and cheap hotel at the top of town; after a quick text exchange, Linda also got a room at the hotel as Nathalie had decided to stay in a rather posher (and more expensive) establishment at the other end of town. Once settled into our respective establishments, it was off to the train station! Actually, this is a narrow gauge train that runs for 8km to a small village outside Dalat. Unfortunately, although there is a...

Aug 13, 2013 - Dalat

Aug 12, 2013 - Nha Trang - Dalat

Apr 14, 2012 - Vietnam - Day 13 - Smiling Buddha & Water falls

We set out on our motorbike just a little after 8am. What an awesome day it turned out to be. The mountain ranges are amazing, a lot of the scenery reminds us of back home in Canada. The winding roads were in pretty good condition and finding most of our stops on our itinerary was quite easy. Traffic was light and we passed a lot of ‘Easy Riders’ (local tourist group) on our way. Heading out of town the road was lined with local green houses full of spectacular flower gardens. We went through the local hill tribe villages and saw a lot of...

Apr 13, 2012 - Vietnam - Days 10 - 12 - Dalat mountain ranges

We spent part of the day on the 11th traveling from Mui Ne to Dalat. It was a beautiful bus ride through the mountain ranges and some great hill tribe villages nestled within huge coffee plantations. At one point the road was blocked literally by rock boulders put their by the local hill tribes to stop traffic, since 2001 the government has had an on going “issue” with the tribes not wanting tours or travelers to use the roads going through their villages, in 2004 travel stopped for a period of time until the government was able to...

Mar 8, 2012 - Dalat Women's Day

- Today is International Women's Day. It's a big thing in Vietnam. A lot of women have the day off and their husbands or boyfriends take them out and make their day special. - This morning Gyda showed up at my door with a beautiful flower she bought for me for Women's Day. So cute! - On the way to breakfast we walked by a restaurant where we saw the cutest little puppy! Even though we were both really hungry we stayed there for more than 10 minutes just taking pictures of the dog, holding him, and playing with him. One of the cutest little...

Mar 7, 2012 - Dalat Easy Rider Tour

Today was a great day. Took the Easy Rider motorcycle tour through the countryside around Dalat and saw a lot today. It was really fun going with a big group too. The people I went with were the group I hung out with yesterday (Wendy, Daisy and Swasee), and also Gyda and Tamar. We were all on the back of the Easy Rider motorcycles except for Swasee who rode his own motorbike. Since we saw so much I'm just going to list the places we went and just a little bit about some of them. 1. Dragon Pagoda 2. View of Dalat- We hiked up a really steep...

Mar 6, 2012 - Walking around Dalat

- Slept in until about 9 am and went downstairs to the restaurant in the hotel to have breakfast. Also eating at the hotel were three people I met on the bus yesterday, Daisy (from England), Wendy (from Holland), and Craig (from South Africa). - Originally I was going to use the morning to figure out what I wanted to do in the city and then maybe I would take a motorcycle guided tour of the countryside in the afternoon. But the three of them were going to walk around the city and see the architecture and the sights, so I asked if I could...

Mar 5, 2012 - Bus to Dalat

After breakfast I went to the beach for just a little bit to relax and read. Found an area of lounge chairs that said 'For Hotel Guests Only' and lay there for a bit. Got back to the hostel, packed up my stuff, checked out, and put my bags in the closet until the bus arrived Went with Phillip (who is also taking the bus to Dalat) to the mini-market to get some snacks for the bus and get a smoothie for lunch. The bus was 45 minutes late picking us up The road from Mui Ne to Dalat is really windy and bumpy, and even though I was exhausted on...

Feb 21, 2012 - Dalat

We headed to dalat which was a French built place in the mountains, it was really nice place with lots of lakes and mountains. They have waterfalls which they try to turn in to a sort of mini theme park. At some of them they have rides and games, elephant rides etc. We went to the 'crazy house' which is a work in progress which has taken more than 10 years the lady designing it is very famous in Vietnam. We also biked to Lang Biang Mountain which gave us great views of the city We wanted to hire motorbikes to get to Hoi An but they don’t...

Jan 11, 2012 - Ever Wonder What Frog Tastes Like? - Dalat, Vietnam!

It was an early morning yesterday in order to catch the bus out of Nha Trang. The day started out well when at 5am we tried to have showers but there was only cold water. We were told by unhelpful tour operators to be at the office at 6:30am. We were there at 6:20 and waited and waited. The office didn't even open until about 7:15. We asked when the bus was coming and didn't really get an answer, all he said was the bus might be coming but it might not! Typical answer in Asia ;) Finally about 8:30 they told us he bus was broken and we could...

Jan 6, 2012 - Central Vietnam

3rd January We had heard some dreadful reports of the night bus. Locals cramming into the isles, constant pipping etc but we felt should take the one to Nah Trang for the experience. Got on a very old tatty bus but found the sleeping seats really comfy, a bit like Business class really but without the champagne. Arrived at 7 the next morning having slept pretty well and ready to look around the town and hit the beach. Nah trang is the seaside capital of Vietnam. It has a wonderful long sandy beach and offshore islands that are famed for...
