The truck ride to highway is like riding an elephant in Asia, up down, swaying side to side thru the dunes. Met a young couple (she an events organizer-can't tell you how many of these we've met, he a brick layer from London...good time to be away) on an around world trip from England, now in their 16th month and going til June. Once back in L.P. I ask about my cap and lo and behold they've got it! My cap (now number 7?) is back and all is well with the world! We kind of kick back, spend time on internet there and Jake and I play cribbage!...Jump to full entry
Jan 29, 2011 - La Paloma via Punta del Este
Stayed in Altena 5000 Hostel in Park across from bus terminal, easy walk, filled w/ many cabins which people rent (lots of tourists here - Uruguain/Argentinian/Brazilian). Also, a huge tent city down the road...Nice...talked to Nadia (when in P.del E. to make reservations) who is mgr and she was very nice, assured us no problem...we arr past midnight and she greeted us warmly, almost tucked us in, ha! Up early, washed clothes, then off to beach, too much sun for me! Has got to be the biggest beach I've ever seen and most people...major...Jump to full entry

we wish everyone a safe and happy new year! special thanks to our friend, candice scott, for her fabulous recommendations in punta del este and the surronding beaches/neighborhoods. we stayed in La Barra, and again, have Candice to thank for all her advice. cheers to 2006... lots of love, anngi and roland here is some info from a website that attempts to sum up our feel of this energetic, beautiful and magical place. it has been one of our favorite places on this trip so far....Jump to full entry
