Jul 29, 2016 - July 29 Osseo WI to Tomah, WI (69 mi)

The day started out beautifully!! The fun part about riding bicycles is you just never know what you are going to come across in the course of a day!! The sky was a bit heavy with cloud and the temps were only in the low 60's but the sun was peeking through as it rose between the horizon and the clouds drifting above. With all the humidity and moisture in the air, it felt clammy and chilly but it was a still, fresh morning after the rain of yesterday. We ventured off Hwy 12 today in favor of the back roads. As we rode along peacefully, I...

Jun 18, 2016 - Riding the rails

Our Blues and Bayou adventure started right on time! We boarded the Empire Builder train at 11:26 and found seats together. The trip from Tomah to Chicago was uneventful... Just lots of Wisconsin scenery. Jef and Colin spent some time in the lounge car with the big vista windows. We arrived in Chicago, also on time, at 3:48pm. We found the Metropolitan room, a lounge for people catching a sleeper train. It's a nice lounge with free drinks. We were able to check our packs and leave the station. We only had 3.5 hours so not really enough...

Jun 5, 2014 - Tomah, WI - Int'l Crane Foundation in Baraboo, WI

(Ron Writing) The weather wasn't cooperative yesterday. We did stop at the mid-week farmers market in Baraboo but it was a big disappointment with only about 4 vendors and they didn’t have much to sell. Today the weather was beautiful, perfect for our tour of the International Crane Foundation (ICF) in Baraboo, WI. ICF was founded by Ron Sauey and George Archibald in 1973 with a goal of saving endangered cranes; some species almost extinct. ICF has been the leading force in breeding cranes in captivity and then releasing them in the wild....

We traveled Hwy 2 East to 53 South to 94 East entering in Wisconsin, we saw turkey along the way and lots of farm fields. We drove until about 5:00 and decided to Walmart camp again, we saw a Culvers as we were coming in so that's what we had for...

Jun 2, 2013 - Sunday Day 2

June 2, 2013. We left Brownsburg, Indiana, heading west on I-74. We soon saw a sign indicating Pittsboro was ahead. Hmmm….had to stop and take a picture. We learned that Pittsboro is the home of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. We entered Illinois about 9:30 am Eastern time…but the time changed here to Central Daylight time. We traveled on I-39 North toward Rockford, Illinois. We saw horse farms, cornfields, and hay fields. There was a huge horse farm, Evergreen Farm, in Normal, Illinois. There have been heavy rains in this area recently and some...

Jun 5, 2012 - Day 2

Awakened this morning at 6am by the service manager wanting to know why we were blocking his service door. Problem is the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. They got us taken care of and we were ready to get on the road by 1pm. EXCEPT I noticed Rudy was missing. Searched all over inside and walked all over the dealers lot looking for him. Finally found him under the bed way back in the corner behind a box. As soon as my heart settled down, we got on the road. Arrived in Tomah, WI at our campsite just 24 hours late. Having trouble trying to...
