Jul 27, 2016 - Part III - July 27 New Richmond to Eau Claire WI

Another one of those starts to the day; the kind of start when you open your eyes to the sound of the pitter patter of rain drops as it hits the tent! Flew out of bed and started packing! Better to have a damp tent than a soaking wet tent! It didn't take long for the pitter patter to stop, but we kept packing and were on the road by 6:10 am! Remember we made this change to our plans and were following Hwy 64 at the suggestion of someone who had gone before us headed for Manitowoc. As we tweak our plans to try and fit in the things we want...

May 25, 2016 - Day 3

Had a great time at the Sweets & Snacks Convention in Chicago yesterday, and a wonderful dinner with jimbo and Tina Kelley. They we also in for the convention. We had a fabulous dinner at Joes Seafood. My favorite place to eat in Chi Town. Got up this morning to go find house batteries for the RV. They died!!! Had to cross the " Hood" to get where we were going to buy new batteries. Glad to be out of there!! John replaced the batteries, yes he can do just about anything, and we are now on our way to Wisconsin. Will stop for the night...

Oct 7, 2015 - Sioux Narrows to Eau Claire

So with a bit of apprehension and a bit of excitement, we hooked up the fifth wheel this morning. The apprehension was because the fifth wheel was parked at such a slant in Lawrie's yard, we were afraid it might roll back once we unblocked the wheels. All went well as we hitched up, did our light check and walk around and hit the road. During the trip south to the US border, we encountered a fair amount of road construction which is challenging as the crews build the road through the bedrock common in the Canadian Shield areas of...

Feb 1, 2015 - Missed Those Grandkids

On January 16th we flew back to Minnesota/Wisconsin. It had been 5 1/2 months since we saw the kids, mom and dad. We knew it was time. Thankfully, the weather was relatively decent in the 30's during the day and no storms. The weeks prior had been cold but there was very little snow on the ground either. Matt and Erin picked us up at the airport in Mpls and we went for a wonderful Mexican dinner - their treat. It was nice. During our whole time back we were treated like guests - very special treatment. We stayed at Erin's mom's home which...

Dec 9, 2011 - The Walmart parking lot in Eau Claire, Wisconsin

My son Joe wants me to go with him next month to Williston, North Dakota and spend a month. Joe is a mortgage loan broker, and the demand for housing in that oil boom area of the country is high, there is absolutely no housing available, and oil workers are paying well over $100 a day for rooms in motels and private homes. This will be quite an adventure, the local RV park is closed for the winter, so the Walmart parking lot is the only place to stay, temperatures this time of year are normally below zero, making it a challenge to keep the...

Oct 16, 2010 - Wisconsin Cheese and Dells

On October 16th, we were chased out of Green Bay by all the Packer fans at our hotel. We were afraid they would find out we were Colts fans so we left quietly. Our destination was the Wisconsin Dells. Along the way we stopped at the Simon Cheese Factory and had an opportunity to try many different varieties of cheeses. Many that we never heard of before. Our favorites were the Chocolate Cheese Fudge, Brick Cheese, Bacon Cheese and Apple Jack. We continued on the road for 2 hours to the Circus Museum. This was a place we had heard so much...

May 24, 2010 - Hurray for Air Conditioning

Hurray for air-conditioning! We awoke to 89 degrees this morning and news of thunderstorms, hail and tornados in Minnesota. Thankfully, those conditions haven't moved this way yet, but it has been hot all day (in the 90's) with 90% humidity, I think. This was a travel day as we left Spring Hill and headed NW across Wisconsin to meet up with some of Dave's Norwegian cousins. I thought there wouldn't be many pictures to share, but on the way, we passed a beautifully kept one room schoolhouse from 1889, took ahike through the woods to look at...

Aug 14, 2009 - Wisconsin...a memorable visit

After leaving Michigan, we drove to Shawano, WI. Unfortunately as soon as we crossed the border, we hit bad roads and a couple of detours. However since we only like to travel about 300 miles a day, we spent the night at a large campground in Shawano. It was wooded and mainly seasonal sites. We are sure on a weekend, it becomes a small community. The same was true of our campground in Chippewa Falls. People staying only a few days are parked on the perimeter of the park. The rest of the park is wooded with O'Neil creek running through it....

May 31, 2009 - Eau Claire to Minnepolis

It was up early on Saturday and off to the rent a truck place with Carl to pick up a truck to move daughter Erika from home to her new duplex. We got it all in one trip with four vehicles including the truck. Everything went smoothly and we finished around 11:00am which was good because we had a lunch date with Carl's dad, my Uncle Kenny at 11:30. He's 86 and lives in a very nice assisted living facility with his wife Ellen. We had a good lunch, I got Uncle Kenny to tell some stories about growing up with my father and his own WWII...

I have made appointments with the vet and the dog groomer to get my dog Gen ready.

Apr 5, 2008 - Wisconsin

Drove thru Wisconsin today and things were going so well we decided to drive a little ways past our planned stop. With the new laptop/gps system, all I had to do was look for Walmarts along the route, and found another one in Eau Claire,Wisconsin so that was our stop for Saturday night. Saw our first snow, just plowed banks from the parking lot and some patches in deep woods. I took a few pictures but had my first problem with my Canon camera, its software and the new Vista laptop, not sure what I did but it corrupted my card so I think I...
