Jul 31, 2014 - Apostle Islands, WI

Today, for those that wanted to, we car pooled to the Apostle Islands in Bayfield, WI which was about 20 miles from Ashland. At Bayfield, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a group of 22 islands in Lake Superior featuring miles of pristine beaches, rugged sandstone cliffs, spectacular sea caves, old growth forests, historic fishing camps and more lighthouses than any other national park. We took the Grand Tour Cruise that took us around close to 10 of the islands. We cruised 49 miles and it took about 3.5 hours. We saw a couple of...

Sep 11, 2013 - Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

For the last 3 days we have been at the "Legendary Waters Resort and Casino" Campground in Red Cliff, WI which is 3 miles north of Bayfield on Hwy. 13. It's on the Red Cliff Band of the Chippewa Indian tribe reservation. Everyone we've talked to here have been super nice and friendly and their campground has served our purposes wonderfully. We have a large site that backs up to Lake Superior with terrific views. Dave made reservations for us to take the Grand Tour of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore our first morning in Bayfield. We...

Aug 10, 2011 - Grand Tour of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

We wanted to get underway bright and early this morning for our 75 mile drive up to Bayfield to catch the Island Princess boat taking us on the Grand Tour around the Apostle Island National Lakeshore! The tour departed at 10:00 with boarding at 9:30 and we wanted to detour into Ashland along the way. So, we were underway right at 6:45 The morning was gorgeous, albeit a bit brisk at 45-degrees; but bright and sunny and few clouds. The route was another relatively boring drive even though annotated on the map as a “scenic drive” along Hwy...

Jul 26, 2010 - Day Trip To Apostle Islands,WI

We do not fall in love with every place we visit. Bayfield is a two-night stop. We arrive in town early, as we are concerned about the limited parking. We find a good spot. We pick up our tickets for the cruise to the Apostle Islands and hang around the dock area. People line up early to get good seats on the boat. John sees a mate eating a banana before we leave the dock. Even I know it is bad luck to bring bananas onto a boat! We head onto Lake Superior. I cannot say the scenery is impressive. The Apostle Islands are large rocky islands...

Jun 25, 2009 - Apostle Islands

Took the day to do things around the RV. Ended up talking with Art and Robin most of the morning then went into town with them for lunch. On the way back we bought more fresh trout for dinner. This afternoon I washed sheets and towels and cleaned while Rick worked on various things that needed to be done. Tonight we had a fire after dinner. Art and Robin joined after they got back from seeing a performance at the Big Top and we ended up talking to them until around midnight.
