Jul 25, 2016 - Clean up day
Well, today we have to start the clean up and pack it away mode. Tomorrow we are on our way home. Greg and Jacob helped Spike get the boat out of the water instead of us doing it with the RV. So that was helpful, especially since we had to float it on the trailer. And the launching ramp was a zoo with everyone down there swimming. Road block the bear, made an appearance too. In fact he was hanging out at the launching ramp too, which cleared the people out! I guess bears like to go swimming too! It is really hot today, and the mosquitos...Jump to full entry
Jul 24, 2016 - There is trout dip in your future!
It is a lovely day today so out we go for our last day of fishing. Fishing has been hard today, we have tried a multitude of lures, and Finally after 2 hours we got a keeper. Spike got a 17.5" fish and lent me his lure to see if I could get a fish. It is an ugly orange lure with black spots, and it must be 20 years old. But today the fish like it as I got an 18.5", finally. These fish will go into the freezer to go home along with the other 2. (You can only keep 1 fish a day but you can have 2 in your possession.) So those of you that like...Jump to full entry
Jul 22, 2016 - New neighbors
Its a bit overcast this morning so we are going out to fish. We are on the water and dropping our lines in at "Kays point" at 10:00. Only got a few bites and the wind started to blow, so we decided to bail out and go in after about 2 hours. And we also got our licenses checked this morning by two of the Rangers that we know. And knowing the drill, we reeled our lines in so they could inspect our lures and our hooks. We passed the inspection and they went on their way. Afterward we said "Wow. They never even asked to look at our stringers or...Jump to full entry
Jul 21, 2016 - Another lovely day
Looks like we can finally trust that the nice weather has arrived. Decided to stay home and do the chores, like dishes. It will be really hard to beat the good fishing day we had yesterday. We are always in the water conservation mode at Ross lake. No hook ups so our 100 gallons of water and tank capacities must last for 2 weeks. We do have a pump to pump our tank into the vault toilet but we like to avoid doing that chore if possible. So we use paper plates and when we run out of silverware then we do the dishes outside in dish pans....Jump to full entry
Jul 20, 2016 - Finally..a fishing success story
The weather looks promising today, so after a breakfast of blueberry pancakes we hit the water about 11:00. I got us all set up with suntan lotion on, cold drinks in the drink holders, poles in the pole holders, camera and binoculars handy, and we settled down to fish. I got to pick the location today, so I selected little jack point to start. (I am convinced that there are no big fish in Boundary bay!) Spike got the first bite but ended up losing the fish. Then I got a hard bite on my fabulous new lure, which I have been saving. (It has...Jump to full entry
Jul 19, 2016 - Flying lessons for the baby ducks
Everything was really wet and socked in this morning, so no fishing today. It was a good day to do the chores, and make beef stew in the dutch oven. The weather got better as the day went on. The resident mama duck must have 12+ babies and today they are getting their first low flying lessons. She has them inside the log boom, for their instructions. They are so cute, and its free entertainment for us! I think I have forgot to mention that here have been no mosquitos. We have the biting deer flys but no pesky mosquitos. I cant tell you...Jump to full entry
Jul 18, 2016 - Sunny and clear
We woke up to a sunny and clear day. So after a quick breakfast we were on the water fishing. The water was like glass and the weather was warm. Spike was the hot fisherman today and got 4 fish but they were all 14 or 15.5, so no keepers. He threw one fish back in and we saw it go over and bite on my lure, so I caught the same fish he had just let go. I think that is a first. I love it when the water is like glass, and you can see the fish but the fish can see you too. And if they can see you, then they are harder to catch. If it is...Jump to full entry
Jul 17, 2016 - Finally we fish!
Today looks like a good day to go fishing. It is overcast but warm, so off we go to Boundary bay. We did really well fishing at this spot last year, so hopefully we will have a repeat performance today. The first day of fishing is always a struggle. You have to get back into the groove of fishing and what works, as far as which lures to use, how much line to put out, and what the trolling speed should be. We are off to a bad start as we both get hung up on the bottom, and that is never pretty. You have to slack your line, and back track to...Jump to full entry
Jul 16, 2016 - A visit from friends
Another wet and rainy day but there was a bright spot! Our friends Greg and Debbie came up to visit us. They are Canadians, and live off the grid, in Hope, BC. Greg used to work for Seattle city light up here at Ross lake, before he retired. So we have known him for many years. So they brought us some fresh veggies from their garden. Cucumbers and green beans, and some jam too! Whoo who! Anyway we had a nice lunch and even nicer visit with them. They brought their dog, Misty, so Deb and I took the dogs down the waterfront trail and looked...Jump to full entry
Jul 15, 2016 - Thunderstorms!
It rained all night with thunder and lightening, so a very soggy campsite this morning. And it continued to rain all day. We are not real excited about donning our raingear and fishing in this weather. So we did chores instead. Angela had bought her boys fishing poles and they were anxious to try them out. So Spike rigged up their poles for them. (They are 7 and 9 years old and I don't think they have the patience yet to fish. ) Last I heard they got them hung up in the dock, but I stayed out of it. The boys names are Luke and Coltan, and...Jump to full entry
Jul 14, 2016 - Enjoying the beauty...
Ross lake is so lovely, but the weather can turn ugly in a heartbeat. The weather looked a bit iffy this morning so no fishing today. I took Zoey for a nice long walk down the waterfront trail. (She always finds something awful to attempt to roll in! Like a dead fish!) Anyway we got down to the two log bridges that cross Hozomeen creek and she balked at going across. She has been across these bridges at least 50 times but she wasn't having it today. I had to carry her across, but she decided it was ok to cross them on the way back. (Spike...Jump to full entry
Jul 13, 2016 - Setting up camp
We hit the hay early last night, after drinking about a gallon of water, ice tea, and lemonade. This is a much drier climate, More like eastern Washington and Lake Chelan, so you need to drink more fluids. Today we set up our campsite and square away the boat. Angela (our Ross lake neighbor) has a new trailer this year and needs her Ross lake husband (Spike) to help her with some problems. She is having problems with her batteries and can't get her hot water heater to light. Angela is Canadian, and has the summers off, so she brings her 2...Jump to full entry
