Sep 28, 2018 - The vehicle

Jacques and I are wandering around in a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. Back home, it's Mo's car. We bought it to replace a Chevrolet Tracker that started to -literally - fall apart. Mo was attracted to the 30+mpg feature. The 30+mpg is why I'm using it for my road trip. I most often drive a 2004 Ford Escape that gets less mpg but is good for hauling stuff to camps, trailhead, or the county landfill. Jacques rides in the center console. He doesn't say much, but he's quick with a comforting gesture. He agrees with me that it would be more fun to...

May 28, 2018 - We have a glow about us!

We decided to break up the drive to the Wallowas in Oregon by spending a few nights in Richland Washington. Richland is near the Hanford Site, the decommissioned nuclear production complex operated by the United States federal government on the Columbia River in the U.S. state of Washington. The site has been known by many names, including Hanford Project, Hanford Works, Hanford Engineer Works and Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Established in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project in Hanford, south-central Washington, the site was home to the...

May 29, 2016 - Horn Rapids RV Resort (5/21 - 5/29/16)

We are now in the eastern part of Washington. It is 180 degrees different from the western part of the state. We are actually staying in Richland, which is part of the Tri-Cities area (Richland, Kennewick and Pasco). Within the area are the Yakima, Columbia and Snake Rivers. On our way over we stopped at Legends Casino. Tim got into a poker tourney and took 3rd place! He did well and made up for my not-so-good on the slots! Way to go! We stayed in a very nice RV resort. It has a swimming pool, hot tub, nice laundry, volleyball area,...

Jul 6, 2014 - Richland, WA.

We are staying at Horn Rapids RV Resort in Richland WA. It is a very, very nice park. The word 'Resort' definitely describes the park. It is very hot and humid. We set up and sat in the air conditioning. We made a couple side trips to Fred Meyers (Kroger) and Big Lots. If you haven't figured it out...there is some following of Lewis and Clark in our travels. Richland, WA is where the Snake River and Columbia River meet (known as a confluence). Lewis and Clark followed the Snake River to the point where it met the Columbia. The Snake River...

Jan 18, 2014 - MLK Birthday Dinner

Nancy and I attended the Martin Luther King Birthday Dinner in Richland as guests of Past Auxiliary National Chaplain Emma Peoples. It was a lovely event with a great keynote speaker. I also got to see several friends and co-workers that I hadn't seen in a while, so that was fun too.

Aug 28, 2012 - Olympic, Wine, Superfund!

We have been spending the past couple weeks in Washington State visiting Olympic National Park and following the Columbia River. We are thrilled to be back in the lower 48. It is so easy to forget how wonderful we have it in the USA….especially on the west coast. Our grocery stores are well stocked, our produce is fresh, the cost of diesel doesn’t make us cry and the RV parks are luxury (as far as RV parks go). Olympic National Park is huge and contains something for just about everyone. Almost 1 million acres large, Olympic NP has...

NORTH BY NORTHWEST

Aug 7, 2012 - The end of an era

My wife and I have listed our 2005 Doubletree 36’ 9” Mobile Suites CK3 as NADA average retail ($43,395) because we have kept it exceptionally clean (detailed) and well-maintained. It is totally travel worthy and ready to hookup for the journey of your lifetime! We thoroughly enjoyed traveling over 10,000 miles in our comfortable unit while seeing many spectacular vistas throughout our great country. As the original (non-smoking, empty nester) owners, we can say that the unit has been well-cared for inside and out. We regularly (at least...

Nov 5, 2011 - Driving around the weather while under the weather

Nice to slow back down to a more relaxed pace, after 3 days of marathon drives.    Pulled off the mail highway to try a portion of the oregon train and found it just as difficult to cross as the pioneers.   After the first several miles, the road went from badly paved to thickly graveled.    The third time my engine light flashed steady, I looked for the exit.  Several reviews of the car indicated nothing serious was wrong; I think the car, unused to anything but short country drives, simple had had enough.  Within miles of the old trail,...
