Feb 27, 2014 - Home Again

Well, we have now returned home. Our travel home journey from Manila seemed to last several days, but due to the magic of the international date-line, we actually arrived on the same day that we left. We were fortunate and got first class seats on the Tokyo to Seattle flight which was a fabulous experience. Many thanks to my brother in law, Lee, who not only allowed us to use his friends and family air passes, but was ever vigilant in helping us to trouble shoot last minute complications. Our original flight from Manila to Narita was full,...

Oct 26, 2013 - Area I (South) Conference

This morning, I attended the Area I (South) Conference, hosted by the Vice Commander for Area I. The attendance was a bit disappointing, though seems "usual" from my perspective. The Vice Commander presented some good information, but more people needed to hear it. It's a rainy, cool day. Fall is here.

Jul 17, 2010 - Jimi Hendrix Memorial in Renton, Washington

It took a little jagging here and there and 2 stops to ask for direction's to The Jimi Hendrix Memorial in Renton, Washington.....many of the people Shawn asked for directions didn't even know about it! The Memorial is made completely out of marble, 3 large marble pillars brace the granite dome.....it is so unique! amazing! Wow! The design incorporates Jimi's beliefs, music from his albums and input from his surviving family members. 54 plots are in this one area for other members of the Hendrix family to be laid to rest as well. More work...

Feb 19, 2010 - Jimi Hendrix and more of Seattle Center

Today, we did a side trip for Debi’s brother in-law, Cam. We stopped by the grave of Jimi Hendrix, who is buried in Renton, about 16 miles from where Debi grew up. Last time Debi & her sister came home together, about 15 years ago, they stopped at the grave site and it was at that time a regular grave marker. However, in 2000, Jimi Hendrix’s father had a new monument built, in the same cemetery, so that is what we visited today. After we left there, we headed back into Seattle, planning on taking the Seattle Underground Tour. Seattle burned...

Dec 5, 2007 - Big Detour!!!!

A new day begins and what a day! A little late starting but only about 19km from the border crossing, Colin was happy we drove that first bit last night when the roads were quiet. Anyways on the road again, "bombing" down the road, when I mention that the speedometer was in miles not kilometers!!! OH he says no wonder it seemed faster than he though we should be going. No wonder I was so nervous last night. Now I can relax. At the border we have to wait while they searched Sherman for agricultural items that are banned, we made out alright...

Aug 4, 2007 - Finishing up stages 1-6, then on to Salem for Monaco Rally

August 4-Shot stages 1-6 with regular posse. I shot with some good folks, and the stages were innovative. In the first stage a father and son team served as range officers. They dressed like movie directors. The dad was the "producer" and the son was the "Director." . The stage was based on the movie "Big Jake." ("I thought you were dead." "Not Likely") You shot the rifle, then ran to the middle and pushed the grandson off the hay bale to safety, then you ran back to the left and shot some more, then you ran back to the haybale and plunged...

Aug 3, 2007 - Shooting early and poorly with Westmatch RO's

August 3-Got up early, took the jeep and shot stages 7,8,9,and 10 with ROS (range officers who will direct the stages during the match), then did side matches. Shot 2 of the stages pretty well, the other two I did pretty poorly. Here is the area where parking, camping , and vendors were set up. The new holsters worked fine, if a little slower than the previous ones. I can't blame the holsters for any problems I had. It was an enjoyable group of RO's who made me feel right at home. They accepted me and ribbed me just as I did them. The...
