Jun 25, 2017 - Last day of Rally

June 25, 2017, We have spent the last 5 days at the Cowlitz County EVENT Center for the Northwest Area Rally with FMCA. We are now headed East to Indianapolis for the International FMCA Rally. The weather has been gradually warmer and yesterday was nearly 100, today should be cooler. We have clear blue skies and are headed to La Grande, OR for the next 2 nights. Time to do laundry, clean the rig, etc. Rally was a lot of fun and also some work. Our chapter was in charge of the 50/50 raffle, table decorations, seminars, and the swap meet....

Oct 2, 2012 - Lake Sacajawea

Lake Sacajawea is a man-made lake surrounded by a large city park. Located almost in the center of Longview, WA., the lake has a walking path that goes around in a loop for a distance of 3 miles. The houses across the streets from the lake were built mostly in the 20's and 30's, and they are absolutely beautiful and well kept. Longview borders Kelso, where we're staying. When Longview was built by R.A. Long in the early '20's, it was the only planned city built entirely with private funds. Long was president of Long-Bell Timber Co. and the...

Travels In Serenity

May 27, 2011 - Mount St Helens

We visited the Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument before arriving in Seattle. It was VERY cold, windy and snowing. Fortunately, we were able to look at some of the mountain from the comfort of the "inside" of the observatory. It contains the volcano and surrounding area devastated by the May 18, 1980 eruption. Unfortunately, clouds obscured the top of the crater. :-( A bit of background: At 8:32 in the morning an explosion blew the topmost 1,313 feet and much of the bulging north face off of the mountain, shot a dense plume of smoke...

We're Wingin' It

Nov 13, 2009 - Longview and Mount St. Helens, WA

This weekend (Friday the 13th – got to love it!) we are staying around home. We’re house/dog sitting from Thu to Sat and then we’re having a Godfather weekend. John is on call so we cannot leave and he has never seen the Godfather movies!!?!?!??!?! We’ll be watching 1 and 2 and having Italian food! Last weekend we went to Longview, Ilwaco and around Mount St. Helens area. It was a pretty good trip but not one of the best. First of all it was raining pretty heavy all the time and especially John didn’t have a very good rain gear. His...

Jul 4, 2008 - Exploring Oregon

A very Happy 4th to everyone. Hope you did it all in moderation...... I'm very sorry for the long delay in getting this entry done but it has been a hectic two weeks again. We started as I mentioned in the previous entry with a lot of work done to the coach, $10 300 worth. It was well worth it if you look at the tire photo I have up and Gary just loves the way the coach is handling during driving. Well we left Brazels on Friday last week and traveled to Eugene Oregon and spent the weekend there and then on Monday we went to AM Solar for our...

Ethne's corner

Oct 5, 2007 - Lake Mayfield-Longview, WA

We had to stop & see Judy's cousin who lives around Longview, WA. We had stopped to see them when we were out here 5-6 years ago. We found a nice $8/night campground at Lake Mayfield. We were about the only folks there, so that should say something about hanging around too long. We had a nice time at a Japanese steak house and had a good visit.

Jul 8, 2007 - Visit with the Youngs and Hecks

While we were in Longview we were fortunate to visit with our friends from back east, the Youngs and the Hecks. We had first met them back in Brooksville, Fl. You may have remembered Terri's sister running over everyone with their Cooler Scooters. Ron and Connie Heck came to Longview and camped behind us at the campground. They also came to the Go 4th Celebration and visited with us. It was so good seeing them. We went to eat with them at a restaurant called Snuffys in Longview. They actually had a place on the menu where you could actually...
