Apr 9, 2020 - Springtime in Panorama, Lacey, Washington

This is the story of a different kind of trip. This trip involves a huge movement into a totally different lifestyle and continues into completely unexpected circumstances. We had a very good February. Even before we moved into our apartment in The Chalet in Panorama, the continuing care retirement community in Lacey where we have settled, we joined the Panorama Chorus and returned to the church choir where we have been members for over 50 years. We got to sing with them twice a week each for the whole month. Sharon was in “hog heaven”! We...

Jun 4, 2019 - Back Home

Sunday, June 2d—Yakima, WA I didn’t want to go across Snoqualmie Pass, and then get onto I-5 on a Sunday afternoon. So, we stayed in Yakima at the Sun Tides RV Park. It’s adjacent to a golf course. The RV park is well maintained. We appreciated full hook-ups to run our air conditioner. It was about ninety-five degrees temperature outside! Miles this day: 280 Monday, June 3d—Home The plan was to take The White Pass Highway (SR 12) over to I-5. However, an hour or so after leaving the Sun Tides RV Park, we began wondering why we weren’t...

Jan 15, 2019 - Getting Back Home

Headed back Home Jan. 8 – 13, 2019 1/8/19. Driving on I-10 north of Tucson, I asked Mary Anne if she’d seen a posting on Facebook by Dolores, a cousin of hers. Dolores’ posting asked if we could get in touch with her, since she now lives in the Phoenix area. Mary Anne tried emailing her cousin. There was no reply. Then she tried calling her. The number we had was out of date. Next, Mary Anne posted a FB reply, asking Dolores to get in touch with us. Ten miles closer to Phoenix, still no reply. Then Mary Anne posted a phone number. Within...

Aug 19, 2017 - From Hope to Home

Day 18-- From Hope to Home August 17, 2017 Leaving Hope, B.C., we went through U.S. customs in Sumas, Washington. We ran into extremely heavy traffic on I-5 in Seattle. Normally it would have taken us about an hour to get home from the UW district. It took three hours. There was stop and go traffic all the way past Joint Base Lewis McCord, just fifteen miles from home! Jon and Terri spent that night near the U.S. Border. They connected with Highway 395 and spend nights in the Tri-Cities area, as well as in Burns, Oregon, before driving into...

Jul 8, 2016 - Back Home

Day 19 July 9th As we were driving through Silverton the next morning, we decided this was another area where we’d like to spend more than a night. The downtown looked like a fun place to explore. Silverton is the gateway to Silver Falls State Park. Plus, between Silverton and Salem is the Willamette Valley Pie Company. It’s ranked 14th of 69 attractions in the Salem area! I think it’d be a really delicious place to visit! A few miles north of Silverton we drove through Mt. Angel. Mary Anne googled it and discovered they have quite the...

Aug 25, 2015 - Home

Day 22 August 23, 2015 Sunday morning we had a short and easy thirty-minute drive to the Washington Ferry terminal in Sidney. At the U.S. Custom station Mary Anne had to get rid of vegetables she’d bought in Canada—bell peppers, tomatoes, limes and lemons. To assuage our sorrow while waiting for the ferry, we found that the gift shop at the terminal had those delicious Magnum Ice Cream Bars. Yummy! The Sidney – Anacortes ferry takes about two and a quarter hours to wend its way past numerous San Juan islands. Even though smoke from fires in...

Aug 18, 2014 - All the way home—515 Miles

Day 19 August 12, 2014 By the time we awoke, Mary Anne’s cold had intensified. I texted Capt.Paul and let him know that we were going home. We thought about leaving the RV at a campground in Ritzville and taking the car home. Then I’d drive back there, spend the night, and go back to Libby. But by the time we’d gassed-up in Coeur d’Alene, Paul had called back, saying the Kootenai River was running high due to all the rain in that area. Subsequently, fishing was not good. And the weather forecast was 5-6 days with rain. So we decided to keep...

Apr 2, 2014 - Stop for Office Work

After the ceremony at the capitol, I stopped by Department Headquarters to attend to some paperwork and visit with the staff. Everyone is a bit brain dead after the first round of conferences plus other stuff going on. I think it's going to be a long month. Tomorrow, I will drive to Arlington, near the Oso mudslide to visit the Legion Post that has been doing some support work. I want to see if they need any other help from us.

Dec 20, 2013 - Santa Claus Duties

Nancy and I made a quick run to Lacey and back today for two purposes: do some paperwork at the office and to play Santa Claus to the staff. I have always appreciated the staff for their hard work. I was unable to attend the office Christmas Party because of the event in Selah, so made the special trip to drop off our gag Christmas gifts. Several of the gifts were "panic button" type of things which produced great laughs. It was fun to see them playing with them. Nancy and I have been sending "serious" birthday gifts to the staff, so we (I)...

Dec 7, 2013 - Finance Commission

Today is Pearl Harbor Day. It's also the day our Finance Commission met to review the budget status. The meeting lasted several hours. I was able to leave the office by 2 PM. Nancy had checked us out of the hotel, so we stopped for lunch and headed to Redmond, where we will spend the rest of the weekend before we visit the Orting Gift Shop on Monday.

Dec 6, 2013 - Headquarters Work

This morning, we woke early and headed out to Lacey for some work at the office. We ran into show over the pass but made pretty good time. We heard later that other people behind us (also coming to the office) had run into several accidents. I spent most of the afternoon doing paperwork and reviewing various plans. Tomorrow, I will sit in on the Finance Commission meeting, so we are spending the night at a local hotel.

Nov 22, 2013 - Headquarters work

Today, I dashed down to Lacey to get some paperwork done at Headquarters and get the snow tires placed on the car before the weather gets bad. All went well, though found out the car needs the front brakes done soon. I made it back to Kent as they were finishing up for the days. It sounds as though they had another good day. Tomorrow, we finish up.
