Apr 23, 2018 - Tulips and mountains and friends...oh my!

We had another very full day, though with a relaxed pace. We both slept past 7 after staying up to post in our journals last night. Our guesthouse is wonderful in that we each have a space of our own so staying up (or getting up) does not disturb the other person. Fran is in the downstairs level with the kitchen and the beautiful windows while I am in the cozy upstairs nook with a balcony that feels like a treehouse. There is a single bathroom containing the most luxurious shower I've ever seen. It has showerheads in the front and back plus...

Apr 22, 2018 - Tiptoeing through the tulips

When we planned this trip, Fran told me she'd like to return to see the tulips growing in Skagit Valley (soft "g", sounds like "Skajit"). I knew the fields would be spectacular but nothing prepared me for today. The tulip fields go on and on - as do the lines of cars. Who cares if traffic is at a standstill, though, when the views from the car are almost as good as being in the fields? Besides tulips, today we: Enjoyed a 30 minute ferry ride from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island. Strolled through Oak Harbor while enjoying artwork and...

May 23, 2017 - Day of Rest

I decided to relax around Winnie and enjoy the beautiful weather that has finally arrived in the Pacific NW most of Sunday. I was able to meet some of the new neighbors that moved in today. Some folks from California are here visiting the area and a family from Texas is on a road trip. After sorting through the pictures I took Saturday, I decided to drive to La Conner a small town along the Swinomish Channel. It's a small artsy-crafty town of 891 people along the channel between Skagit Bay and Padilla Bay on Puget Sound. The town's center...

Sep 4, 2016 - La Conner, WA

September 4, 2016 Easy going day. We all walked into La Conner for breakfast at the Calico Café and then some window shopping. We then walked back to the neighborhood and visited some friends who had a house on the channel. Sun was out and it’s a lovely day. Rick and Connie had invited some folks for dinner and the number kept growing. By mid-afternoon the number was up to 13! Bob and Rick were off to the store for more food and Connie and I were making Mediterranean cod pockets (cod filet with sliced potatoes, Kalamata olives, cherry...

Sep 3, 2016 - Victoria BC to La Conner, WA

September 3, 2016 Up at 4:45 to be ready for customs check in at 5:00. The process was very efficient and we were on the ferry by 5:45. Into Port Angeles at little after 8:00. We declared an apple with the agriculture folks who then had to search the rig. LOL, the apple was from Washington which we could keep and all of the rest they confiscated! Headed east on Hwy101 and stopped in Sequim at the Mariner Café for breakfast. Lots of local color! There were several tables of guys who seemed to get together regularly for breakfast. Lots of...

Jul 21, 2016 - Roseburg Or to La Conner WA

July 21, 2016 One of the fun parts about serendipity traveling is finding restaurant gems. Burrito Vaquero was one we found within walking distance from the hotel. Ambiance was not great ( right off the I-5 on the central Roseburg road) but the fresh Mexican food was terrific. Bob had a deluxe burrito and I had the fajitas salad that came in a very large fried flour tortilla with handmade tortillas on the side. No beans and rice on the plates here….only lots of fresh onions, peppers and other greens. Well worth a stop if you are travelling...

Sep 2, 2015 - Back to La Conner TT

I am back at La Conner TT. Still keeping away from fires. I went square dancing last night at Woodinville, WA. This is a suburb of NE part of Seattle. Had a good time. Was able to dance every tip but one. While I was waiting on the dance to start, a square dance friend from Apache Junction walked in. He lives up there and goes south for the winter. The fires seem to getting better. Which is very good.

Aug 11, 2015 - Back in the lower 48, but that doesn't mean the GPS knows how to handle it!!

As much as we have thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring British Columbia and Alaska this summer, we found ourselves anxious this morning to return to the lower 48. We made our border crossing at Sumas, Washington where we found lines waiting to clear U.S. customs, but within about 30 minutes we were accepted back and on our way to a nearby RV park in Blaine. Our delight in being back in this part of the world was dashed as we attempted to check into the park where we had reservations on file. The smiley and kind young man at the check-in...

Jun 26, 2015 - A dinner in La Conner

6-26-15 A dinner in La Conner Was another gorgeous day in the Pacific Northwest. Todays main event was a rehearsal dinner in the quaint little town of La Conner, WA. Cute is a great way of describing this place. There was a gathering of two clans for the wedding of Erica and Joe on Saturday. We all attended at "rehearsal dinner” in downtown La Conner. We all got a chance to get familiar with one an other before Erica and Joe’s big day tomorrow. Was a success. So far, so good.

Jun 25, 2015 - Near La Conner, WA

6-25-15 Near La Conner, WA Camped in the Thousand Trails La Conner RV and Camping Resort. Tried to lay low today as I’m still pretty sick. This area of the Pacific Northwest is very scenic. Near Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands. We mostly sat around with friends Susan and Mike. We sat around near the beach, we sat around in our camps. Took naps. I felt so bad I skipped the BBQ at Erica and Joe’s house in Mountlake Terrace but we sent Kate and Tucker to represent. Worked out well as the Toyota is only a two seater anyway. Later, the four of us...
