May 22, 2017 - Touring Whidbey Island

Saturday, I drove around Whidbey Island. I wanted to see the ferry terminal where we will be loading up Winnie and the Fit on Thursday for our hop to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. Right next to the terminal is Fort Casey Historical State park. Fort Casey was one three strategically placed forts to defend the entrance to the Puget Sound at the turn of the 20th Century. They created a "triangle of fire" at the entrance to Admiralty Inlet. It was equipped for defense and used as a training facility up to the mid-1940s. The fort...

Jun 5, 2009 - Whidbey Island WA 6/4 - 6/15

We spent 10 days on Whidbey Island. Lisa joined us half way through. We really enjoyed the campground right on the water, with beautiful places to walk through meadows, and along the ocean. We liked Whidbey Island, particularly the central part, which is not as wooded, and has open fields and meadows. We enjoyed a visit with our friends Christina and Rob, and also very much liked the town of Langley, where they live. It reminded us of a New England seaside town.
