Breakfast in the hotel before we left for Astoria. It took longer then we hoped as the hotel was singularly unprepared. When we were finally served the food as good but...... Then on the road to Astoria. Mapquest directions took us on the two straight legs of the triangle, first straight north and then west to Astoria. First stop was The Maritime Museum and what a treasure that turned out to be. A short movie about the area surprised us all. May 11, 2005 - Cape Disappointment, WA

After saying our goodbyes to the Petrys, Paula and I head south for the cape. We arrived at the cape in the early afternoon and after checking in at the ranger station found a nice campsite just off the beach. Beachfront property. Captain John Meares named the Cape in 1788 after he missed the passage up the Columbia River and floundered a couple of days. But, its real claim to fame is that Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition was here in 1805 as part of their mapping and scientific expedition and their epic track across the continent. At...
