Sep 21, 2013 - 8th District Conference

Interesting drive this morning. I have never been in this part of the state before. It is pretty, but you can tell the economy is depressed. Logging, farming and livestock seem to be the industry. The Cusick Post is about the only thing in town, aside from the fire station, city hall and a school. Housing is pretty dilapidated. The Post appears to be the social center for the area. They have about 250 members, which is FAR more than the population of the town. The meal and meeting went well. My comments were well received, as they were last...

Aug 20, 2010 - Sandpoint, ID

Approximately 50 miles to the east of Cusick is the quaint town of Sandpoint, ID. The scenic drive to get there is along the International Selkirk Loop. South from Cusick the loop follows The Pend Oreille (pronounced Ponderay)River and then heads east and north along The Priest River. The views are of river canyons and National Forests, unfortunately few turnouts for photos are available along the most scenic areas. The rivers once used for logging are now teaming with recreational boating from kayaking to pleasure boating and fishing....

Aug 10, 2010 - Birthday In Newport, WA

One of the reasons for our coming to this area of Washington was to visit with my friend Joe & Jill who are working in Usk. Tues Aug 10 was Joe's birthday and we met them in Newport for dinner. We dined at Kelly's Tavern one of the oldest continuously operated bar's in the country established in 1894. The meal was typical tavern fare of burgers and fried food. We enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with Joe & Jill and had a good time.

Jul 29, 2010 - Spokane, WA

We went to Spokane about an hour drive to the south for service on the coach. We arrived Thursday July 29 at 7:30 for our appointment and were going to leave he coach all day for some front end repairs. It is the first time we have had to abandon our home at a repair shop since we've been fulltiming. As it turns out the parts that were shipped to the shop were wrong and the replacements did not arrive until Saturday morning. The shop was good about coming in and finishing Saturday, however, the alignment shop was closed and we had to drive...

Jul 21, 2010 - Cusick, WA

We have been very busy since we drove from Missoula to Cusick, Washington Monday July 12. We had intended to visit our friends Joe & Jill who are workamping in the hereby town of Usk and while we were in Moab, Ut. we met the owner of a management company who was taking over an RV Resort in Cusick. Since we were coming this way anyway we agreed to look in on the resort and manage it for the summer. How strange the role serendipity plays in our life. First the opportunity at this resort, secondly our friends Gus & Ivy were traveling and...

Aug 29, 2008 - BACK in the USA

Well, yeah, we had rain once again (actually - still!) as we left Revelstoke. Most of our drive out of BC was rainy as well. The ferry over Upper Arrow Lake was a nice experience...we had about a 20 minute wait for the ferry, and the ride across was 20 minutes also. They really know how to maximize space, and we had really tight quarters on the ferry. As we neared the Metaline Falls Border Crossing into Washington, we were welcomed by the most spectacular blue skies...we sure have missed that! We lucked out and got one of the last sites at...
