Nov 16, 2014 - adieux St. Thomas

After finishing our scientific study of all the beaches on St. Thomas, we've decided that you can't go wrong; they are all wonderful. It's unusual to find so many beaches were you can wade into warm, turquoise colored water, walking on powdery sand and swim a short way to an area rich with coral and fish. It is more common to have to take a boat to a good snorkeling spot. Many of the beaches are shared between small hotels and public areas. This means a changing room and fresh water shower are nearby and if it's lunch time, you can take...

Nov 15, 2014 - island therapy

On the cruise home from Southampton, Ken came down with a coughing, sneezing thing that got so bad he even agreed to see a doctor when we got home, a rare event indeed. Diagnosis: bronchitis. Relief provided by antibiotics and prednisone. As we lived together in that tiny cabin, I waited for his disease to attack me. It never really did although I felt on the verge every so often since then. After we arrived in St. Thomas my immune system finally gave up the good fight and I ended up with my own coughing, sneezing thing and 101ยบ fever....

Nov 12, 2014 - return to St. Thomas

We rode the ferry back to St. Thomas with the bride's parents and wished them a good trip back home to the cold. After a stop at the grocery store we returned to the condo complex, checking into a different unit. We were surprised to find that the "kitchen" consisted of a mini-frig and hot plate with no sink. The groceries we had purchased did not involve extensive preparation, but I found myself making the salad on the toilet; there was no counter space. This lack of cooking facilities was more than compensated by the marvelous view and...

Nov 3, 2014 - to bed without supper

Our flight to St. Thomas left in the morning and we are always nervous about rush hour traffic, so we booked a Park, Sleep, Fly hotel that let us leave our car parked on site and shuttled us to O'Hare. When we booked the room it included breakfast, but at check in the clerk said, "We don't do that anymore." When we checked in to the flight from home, our boarding pass said we were eligible for security pre-check so we waltzed right past the friendly folks from Homeland Security without disrobing and unpacking and had plenty of time for an...

Nov 19, 2013 - St Thomas, US Virgin Islands

Our first port was St Thomas which is in the US Virgin Island. After we got off the ship we found a driver in a van to take us on a private island tour. Normaly I put a caption under every picture. This time I posted all the pictures and only a few have captions. I bought a new camera before the cruise and it takes much better pictures. So the pictures are doing the talking.

Apr 18, 2013 - Week 2 - NCL EPIC - at sea

Well Thursday found us at sea for the day - hence a much needed sleepin for everyone - especially the kids. Phil and I decided to have a relaxing day up at the H20 bar exploring the many different cocktails they had on offer. Had my specialty NCL glass and decided that the Strawberry Daquari was my favorite, Bahama Mama was a close second. Jess joined us and Eb & Scott came up after lunch. We decided that it was a good day to go watersliding so with Eb and her trusty Gopro we set of to have some fun - possibly a bit wobbly, gotta love...

Apr 17, 2013 - Week 2 - NCL EPIC - St Thomas

Well today we set off to the island of St Thomas - it was a family experience that I think we'll never forget. :) We watched from our balcony it was a beautiful view of St Thomas as we docked. We were all organised to get off the ship early as we had planned a trip to do SNUBA - it was on the other side of the island from the Epic so we hired a taxi and set off. The scenery was amazing and the view of the Epic surrounded by clear blue water was beautiful as we had to go up and over the top of the island. Our driver gave us all the info on...

Nov 14, 2012 - Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - Day 4 (Caribbean Cruise)

Our second 'pit stop' on this wild cruise was Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas in the British Virgin Islands where we docked from 11:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. We had booked a Kayak/Hike/Snorkel tour with a private company after researching on Trip Advisor. We enjoyed the kayaking part of the tour. We treated it like a race and always made sure we were near the front of the pack. It was great exercise after days of partying. The hike was just okay - this consisted of the trek we had to make to get to the snorkeling spot. The snorkeling was okay too but,...

Living the Dream

Mar 9, 2012 - St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

We spent a few hours in this American Territory and felt it was one of our 2 favorite ports (as was San Juan, PR). [The U.S. purchased this area from the Danes in 1917.] Our fun excursion started off with Tuffest driving a large open air shuttle with 17 of us stuffed in and holding on! Once off the pier and through the narrow busy city streets he headed up the very steep, very winding and very narrow 2-lane road to Mountain Top. No way we'd have ever attempted this road (and yes, they drive on the left) on our own! The views of the...

Feb 2, 2012 - Winter Relief in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands

There's nothing like breaking up a second winter in Boise than a trip to St. Thomas the last week of January. With Casey and James working there for the winter we had a nice excuse to go. That on top of Barb getting in on Southwest Airline's one day half price sale, we were on our way! We flew to Ft. Lauderdale via Las Vegas where we overnighted near the airport. The next day we were on the 1pm Spirit Airlines flight to St. Thomas and with the 1 hour time difference we arrived there at 4:30 - just in time for Casey & James to pick us up in...
