Dec 27, 2010 - Traveling Through Tye

We left the kids and DFW today for our trip West. Just a short trip today. We stopped off at Tye RV Park (just west of Abilene) for the evening. We're looking forward to the weather and Thursday does not look good. We need to travel as far as we can tomorrow to get to a better place to sit out the storm. I DO NOT want to stay over in Van Horn again.

Two Hams in a Can

Jun 17, 2010 - Day 4

Loooong, boooring day. Lots of empty spaces between Carlsbad, NM and Tye, TX. Lots of oil rigs, salt flats, dust and wind. Only distractions were the occasional fields of Black-eyed Susans waving at us as we passed by. Lots of “road work” and “your stimulus dollars at work” signs, but no one working - just signs. Texas calls their bumpy roads “textured highways” - whatever you call it, it’s a lousy road. Our stop tonight was near Dyess Air Force Base. Watched the F-18's on their training runs. Noisy, but beautiful!

Jun 14, 2010 - Tye RV Park, TX

Jun. 14 Abilene, TX Left early this morning since we have another 2 day drive. We realized we didn’t get pictures of Robbie and Kristie after seeing them all weekend. Can’t believe it. We were going to drive further today, but found a campground in the Passport Book for half price. We drove one hour in LA and 7 hours across TX. The boys and I played games and watched the scenery. Tonight we walked down to the pond and around the campground. The red clay is so dry and cracked. We found some small sunflowers in the field near the pond. We...

Apr 15, 2009 - Tye, Texas

Wednesday 4/15/09 Moving on to Texas. Tye, Texas. The trip there was not bad, a lot of land, way a lot of land. Ole Fields, a few turkeys, not too many trees, jut shrubs that are good size, and they probably call them trees, but I must say it is green. Not green like home, but green, not tan like Arizona or New Mexico. We stayed at the Tye RV Park. It was in our camp club USA book for half price, so it was $18.00, and it actually had some grass. We have been staying in gravel and dust. It was a clean park and we were considering staying a...

Oct 20, 2007 - Tye, TX

It was a short day - but for some reason more tiring than some others. The trip was quite uneventful - good roads - little construction. We are starting to see more and more cotton fields and still a lot of milo/sorgum. Corn and beans are a thing of the past. We traveled US 277 from Wichita Falls to Tye - picking up I-20 just a few miles north of Tye. We have stayed in this campground before - again when the wind was blowing - it is not the greatest but we are off the road. At least the Air Force wasn't holding touch and go maneuvers this...
