Feb 1, 2019 - Tires & Travel

We were up early this morning ready to hit the road. Our first stop was Brownsville, Texas. We had the oil changed and new tires put on the RV. We got a pretty good deal at $2,400 for new tires installed and balanced and the oil change. They did a great job. After waiting for all the work to be done we didn’t make it very far today. We drove about 100 miles to Riviera, Texas and pulled into a nice Rest Area and stayed the night. We will be ready to roll early in the morning. Check back later for more from our trip to New Mexico. We have...

Oct 29, 2013 - We have arrived

Well we are here. Left Milton on Friday and we arrived at Seawind on Tuesday. It was a long drive but worth it. We had our first happy hour with old friends. Was great to see everyone and still more people are arriving all the time. Today will be a busy day just getting the normal chores done. Have laundry to get done and clean up this RV and put things away. And tonight Wednesday dinner with Joanie and Dave and of course we get to see Keely. Can't wait. Lovely (actually too hot not climatized yet) .. 86 here yesterday.

Road Trip 2013

Apr 28, 2013 - Seawind RV Resort

Just as when we left Boise, it was raining when we pulled out of Mission Thursday. It only bothered me because I had just washed the truck and RV a few days earlier. After a short-stop to have the window awnings installed, we headed to our first destination just two hours up the coast - Seawind RV Resort on the bay out of Riviera, Texas. We have never been here but it's a very nice park. Barbara, an exceptionally friendly manager, let us choose our own site. Probably a bad idea as almost all of the Winter Texans that occupied the park...

Mar 1, 2011 - Further South

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Pulled out of Seawind RV, east of Riviera TX, on the coast, and spent some quality time looking over the birds on the mud flats just outside of the gate. Continued south to Sarita, TX, home of the once famous 400,000 acre Kenedy Ranch and toured the Kenedy Ranch museum, a very worthwhile stop. Mifflin Kenedy came to Texas as a steamboat captain for the US Army in 1846. He and his friend and business partner Richard King found wealth as riverboat captains on the Rio Grande river during the Mexican & Civil Wars. After...

Feb 28, 2011 - Aransas Pass to Seawind

Monday February 28/11 Left Goose Island and drove to Aransas Pass and Pt. Aransas. Saw porpoises as we crossed on the ferry. Visited cousins Peter & Marion Loof who summer in Muskoka and winter here in Pt. Aransas. Spent some good time at the Pt. Aransas Birding Centre although high water made it less successful than other years. Drove south along Mustang Island and crossed back on to mainland at Corpus Christie. Took some back roads over to #77 and Riviera. 100's of thousands of flat fertile acres just beginning to be planted into...

Nov 7, 2006 - DAY SEVEN - CenTex LoW Trip - To Sea Wind RV Resort

It's hard to believe that we've been on this little trip for a week already. Another of our members, Myrna, had to leave today due to a death in her family. Today we drove south to Sea Wind RV Resort a few miles north of Riviera, where we will spend the next two nights. The resort is in the Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park, which is located on Baffin Bay. Our RV spaces back up to the little Kaufer Lake on the resort grounds. Bert met us here to go on part of the trip with us. We were invited to participate in a pot luck dinner tonight in the...

Nov 1, 2005 - Winter in Sea Wind and South Texas

After the shock of Halloween Eve storms wore off somewhat, we settled in for a nice warm winter, even though many thought it was very cold. We had no snow, no ice, and not enough cold weather to get me out of cutoffs and sleeveless shirts more than a couple of times in the early mornings when I was out walking. The winter had many twists and turns at Sea Wind, and we enjoyed it very much. We met many new people, made many new friends, had lots of lunches with others in the park at one of several restaurants and cafes which were worthy of...

Oct 30, 2005 - Riviera, Texas--Halloween Eve

Halloween eve and we are on the road fairly early out of Buda, Texas, and with Cabela's in the rear view we are happy to be gone from there. No problem making Riviera and Sea Wind RV Park today, just a nice drive south. Once in San Antonio the territory is looking more familiar as I once lived in Beeville, and Kingsville, Tx. Of course the two lane road from just south of San Antonio to Beeville is now a four lane freeway, and not so many small towns to slow down as one drives through them. The freeway bypasses most towns, and goes several...
