Apr 4, 2015 - Sea Rim State Park, Texas
Sea Rim state park is, as expected, a lovely representation of a Texas State Park. There are but thirteen campsites, all with water and power, well patrolled and managed by the park staff. There are kayaking trails through the bayou, a boardwalk for nature viewing, and the ever-present alligator warnings. When we pulled in, there were not enough openings for more than one night, but Bryan (Ranger at the desk,) who knew we wanted to stay a few days, made a real effort. He was successful, and we were here through Easter weekend,in a lovely...

Jan 21, 2010 - Texas Too
From Whispering Meadows RV Park, in Westlake, Louisiana (at I-10, 3 miles from Lake Charles, 27 miles east of Texas). When we are sitting in these campgrounds, we generally consider everything within a 75-100 mile radius for day trips; sometimes a bit further, but that is our general guideline. Since we are sitting approximately 30 miles from the Texas border, do the math, Mikey, & you’ll quickly see that this Westlake location takes in a small area of Texas as well as Louisiana. Hence, our last foray took us in that direction. We had...

Jun 10, 2009 - Port Arthur, Texas
We read about Pleasure Island in Port Arthur, Texas and thought it was a charming little fishing village. Well it was...before Hurricane Ike devastated the area September 10, 2008. We arrived and found that the area is trying to rebuild. The manager of the RV park told us that we needed to beware of alligators within the park, especially in the pond. She said the snakes are not as visible as before. They were everywhere at the first of the year but the condition has gotten much better!!! "Could we talk about a refund, please?!!" We decided...
