Nov 30, 2019 - On the road again...
After talking about heading back to Yuma for months...the day has arrived. We were up around 7:00 to get ready to leave and to try to get ahead of the incoming rain. According to cousin Tracey (Channel 11) there was a line of storms coming through the state starting mid-morning. We were able to get everything done and hooked up by 9:30. After changing into dry clothes because of the low 70 degrees and high humidity, I needed dry clothing for the drive, we pulled out at 9:40. It started to sprinkle on Sue as she checked the lights and towing...Jump to full entry
Apr 28, 2018 - Almost back to Arkansas
We both woke up a little early this morning. Me, because I do so usually, and Sue, because the road noise had disturbed her sleep all night. The RV park was right on I-20. So, we were up and around and got away on schedule...or 8:55 a.m. We wanted an early start because we had a 300+ mile trip scheduled for today. Our goal was to make it to Mt. Pleasant today. The elevation of Abilene is 1,719 ft above sea level. However, there was a constant up and down until we were south of Ft Worth. There is a 6% grade about 50 miles west of the...Jump to full entry
Apr 15, 2014 - Visiting Family
We had a nice drive out of the Rio Grande Valley. Not too much wind, sunny weather, and lots of pretty wildflowers to enjoy along the way made for a delightful first day out. Our first stop was a visit with Ronny and Andrea near Corpus Christi. They have a lovely place and we tucked our little Mongo neatly into their side yard and then enjoyed a lovely dinner of roasted wild pig and veggies. Ronny's sister and family were also there that evening (they are visiting from Belgium) and we enjoyed listening to them describe their various...Jump to full entry
Aug 13, 2013 - Visiting Family
We are currently enjoying a very nice visit with my parents in Mount Pleasant, Texas, but plan to leave tomorrow morning to head for Washington D.C. to see our kiddos. Board games, my mother’s delicious cooking, visiting, and movie watching make for a fun time and the clock seems to simply tick by too fast when we are here. While staying in Mount Pleasant Willis and I also enjoyed a nice afternoon visit with our nephew, Jon, and his girlfriend, Faby, at Two Senoritas Mexican Restaurant. Both Jon and Faby are busy young adults and lead very...Jump to full entry
Apr 23, 2009 - to Mt. Pleasant TX; ? CG
35183 to start the day. Today we drove from Buffalo TN to Mt Pleasant TX. It was 480 miles and I got 8.9 mpg driving about 64 with the generator on in the afternoon. Very good, I think! Our mileage now is 35644. We are at the KOA here, but it is still to freeway (I30) to stay very long. Tomorrow should be about 400 miles. We hope to get their about 3pm. I can't believe it was HOT today. It was 91 (in the shade) at dinner at about 6pm. It is still 81 and it is 740pm and the sun is about to go down (central time). We changed last night. As...Jump to full entry
Dec 17, 2008 - We're off to Mt. Pleasant and...today...
The big task today for Amelia and me was to go to Mt. Pleasant (15 miles) to shop for food @ Wal-Mart Super Center. There, I experienced bigotry, Northeast Texas style, within 10 minutes of being in the store. A tall man came up to us and asked us where we were from and made disparaging remarks about certain races around here being responsible for the high prices we were paying @ Wal-Mart because they were on food stamps...Amelia wanted me to be aware of what I might encounter in these parts of the country so I wouldn't be so shocked if it...Jump to full entry
