Jun 16, 2018 - Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary

This morning about a dozen of us left on the CARE bus to travel to the St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary near Montgomery. Others followed the bus in two cars. The drive was a pleasant one, with nice scenery and dry conditions. The young man at the Sanctuary was very informative and he told us at the end that this was his favorite part of the job. He took us to each enclosure and told us about those wolves and also gave us information about wolves in general. All the wolves had interesting stories -- some of them sad stories of abuse by owners....

Oct 16, 2017 - Conroe Texas KOA

Our stay at the Lake Conroe KOA started out a little rocky due to my painful back and neck problems. After getting a good chiropractic adjustment on Wednesday afternoon and a massage on Thursday morning, I spent a couple days recovering with an ice pack on my neck and shoulders - and taking long naps. I finally started feeling better by Friday and was able to enjoy myself at the rally. This was our third Grand Design rally this year. Each of them is different because they reflect the personality of the people that organize them. This rally...

Oct 11, 2017 - Texas rally time

After we left the Escapees park in Livingston, it was about an hour and a half drive to Montgomery Texas to the Lake Conroe KOA which is the site of the Texas Grand Design rally starting on Thursday afternoon. We made it to our site without a problem...after we had to jump BAT off because of a dead battery. Our friend Tom was kind enough to come over and help us out. We arrived at the KOA and they had to move us to a different spot than we had reserved because there are still a lot of folks in the park that had to evacuate from their other...

2017 Life in our RV

Dec 7, 2013 - Montgomery, TX

Early December found us packing up and heading to Montgomery, Texas (north and west of Houston) for a Lone Star Bounders (LSB) Rally. On the way, we drove through Cut and Shoot, Texas...just had to take a picture of the sign! We had around 30 or so Bounder motorhomes together...quite impressive! The LSB is hosting the Bounders of America international rally at the same RV park in October. We used this rally to “cuss and discuss” plans. We will be “working” the rally so will arrive a couple of days before the rally and stay a few days after...

May 19, 2011 - Lake Conroe, TX

330 miles (6 hours) from Baton Rouge to Lake Conroe, just north of Houston. KOA Lake Conroe 800-562-9750 After fighting our way out of Baton Rouge's HORRIBLE morning traffic, we had an uneventful drive to Lake Conroe, 60 miles north of Houston. As we crossed the bridge over the Mississippi at Baton Rouge, our estimate was that the water was within 5 feet of the top of the levee. They do seem to think that it has crested, however. The drive over the bayous was long -saw a tremendous number of great blue herons as well as numerous other...

Oct 20, 2010 - Montgomery, Texas

We decided to stay here in Montgomery for a few days after the rally is over. OK, we are getting really lazy with this travel journal. No pictures. The truth is we are just having too much fun to take pictures. We are having lots of fun at the rally. We got the carpet cleaned yesterday. Today we got the satellite working again and it is really nice to get all the channels in High Definition again. We also met Mike Michel again (the owner of NuWa) and he had Happy Hour with us tonight. We ate at a pretty decent BBQ place yesterday. The other...

Alaska 2010

Oct 18, 2010 - Montgomery, Texas

We drove to Mongomery, Texas for the HitchHikers of America rally. When we got there we were with a lot of people we know. The first night out we went to Magnolia, Texas to have dinner and see the Texas Opry Jamboree. The next day we spent quite a bit of time showing off the trailer to a couple that was interested in buying a HitchHiker and needed to see what they looked like. I spent most of the morning making minor repairs. Last night it was Judy's birthday so we had a group of the Hauling HitchHikers have a get together and we ordered a...

Oct 10, 2010 - Texas - Bandera to Montgomery

Last night Deeney came over again and we all mosied? on back to the 11th Street Bar for another night of dancing and fun. The band was fantastic and played on until 3am. When we arrived, there were many more people than the previous night. As we were looking around for a place we could park ourselves and our bottle of tequilla, we heard someone say, take a seat here, I'll move over. This was an invite from a man we later came to know as "Damn It". He was sitting alone at a bar and made room for all three of us to get comfortable. He was...

Sep 27, 2008 - Montgomery Texas

The first real damage we saw from hurricane Ike was near Beaumont Tx. There were some areas with lots of downed trees, but as we came closer to Houston we saw more and more wind damage...most all of the billboards were either damaged or destroyed. Then as we drove thru Houston we saw the buildings with plywood in the windows...The most obvious sign of damage, tho, was watching the "convoys" of power and construction trucks traveling the interstate together. We saw several hundred trucks...and at our rv park in Montgomery, I was walking the...

Apr 11, 2008 - Montgomery, TX

Our Alfa national rally was held at beautiful Lake Conroe in Montgomery, TX. The first night we were greeted by the host club and a PR person from the chamber of commerce talked about the things to do in the area. The biggest attraction is the lake and as she talked about it Dianne looked at me and said we could get out the inflatable kayak and take a tour. As she finished her talk someone in the crowd asked if there were alligators in the lake. She responded yes, but they are at the north end of the lake and all the boating is at the south...
