Sep 27, 2012 - Texas Sandhills

We spent the night in a really interesting park in the Sand Hills of Texas. It's a neat place because one can camp in among the dunes. Like the dunes at White Sands, these are continually changing due to wind (which seems to blow constantly here) and rain. Every morning rangers come through the campground and plow/bulldoze the RV sites out for another day. The hills were also in bloom with tall yellow flowers and low growing white ones, neither of which we can identify. The yellow ones may be Plains Sunflower. Children rent disks and boards...

Dec 18, 2010 - OTRA - TX -Monahans

I don’t know. No matter how early we get up and no matter how much or how little we have to do to get ready (we didn’t even unhook last night), we always end up leaving between 10:00 and 10:30. Today it was 10:15. More nice smooth roads (most of the way) on our way to Monahans, TX. Saw many hundreds of wind turbines between Abilene and Monahans…all along the plateaus. Lots of cotton fields, many with the bales still in them either waiting for transport to the gin or waiting until the market prices improves. Lot of oil wells…not the big ones...

May 27, 2007 - Sunday drive through New Mexico and Texas

The next morning, after breakfast, we got off about 8:30 AM to our next stop in Big Springs, Texas. It was a beautiful day for traveling. We stopped at several rest stops, or rather what Texas calls a rest stop. Most of them didn't have pull-through sites so we had to park parallel to the curb. But it was nice to stop and eat a snack or have lunch. Texas is mostly flat and not much to see other than the wide open plains, but we saw some huge cactus along the highway that was very strange looking. After about 6 hours of driving, we decided...
