Feb 26, 2021 - Partial Celebratiom

When I went over to the house to pick up my ice for the day, I found Scott and Amber pretty grouchy. It seems that they were supposed to close on their re-fi, but could not because someone fell down on the job and did not complete their survey. The corners are set, but the house placement was not done. So I picked up my ice and left them to breakfast and the phone trying to get something done. Don had his appointment for the echo-cardiogram today, so that will be one more obstacle out of the way for his knee replacement surgery. Of course...

Feb 24, 2021 - That Darn Cat!

Well, we tried to order a new fridge today. I did not expect it to be cheap, but it is going to cost a bit more than I would have liked. Scott is calling around to local dealers, trying to get the best price; actually he is trying to get one at any price! The general consensus has been 3-6 months, but he may have found a place that can help us out. Hopefully we will have it by next week sometime. Pretty quiet in here right now, as Amber has gone to pick up Canaan from daycare and Scott is still at work. It is 5 o’clock somewhere! I cleaned...

Feb 23, 2021 - Routine

Kitty got us up a little early today, which was lucky because Scott came by to look at the fridge. The verdict was just what we were expecting; we have to buy a new refrigerator. That was not in the plans but it sure beats digging through 3 ice chests to find stuff to cook. And replacing the ice on a daily basis. Hopefully we can get one soon. I spent the time today cleaning out drawers. More tomorrow. We had pulled pork for dinner tonight, and Canaan and Grandma made peanut butter cookies for dessert. I did the measuring and he did the...

Feb 22, 2021 - Looking

It appears that our fridge is not going to work. We tried it on propane, and we tried it on electric. I am not sleeping well because I am worried about the fridge, so we shut it off entirely today and are waiting to see what Scott may have to say about it. The weather is nice today and we are really ready to get out of the house, so went into town to try to find a few food items (and water) and to get a replacement handle for our screen door. The first place we stopped did have the part, and as long as we were there anyway, we looked at a...

Feb 20, 2021 - Progress

Kitty let us sleep in this morning, so after coffee in bed with the kitty, we went over to the house for showers in their huge walk-in 2-head shower. Wonderful! Our plan was to get a little bit of shopping done and get fuel in the truck after the appointment. But first on the list was some food. We tried several but either the waiting line was too long or the drive thru line was too long, and finally just ended up going to Smokey Moe's for barbecue. The lines at all the food stores were atrocious, and many of the gas stations were out of...

Feb 19, 2021 - One of Those Days

I didn't really sleep well last night. Then when I did finally get to sleep the kitty started roaming around at 2:00. By 2:30 she was on my bedside table; she didn't want to get in bed with me, but did tolerate a bit of petting before she just lost it and slapped me, followed by a snarl. Then she sat in the living room meowing at the top of her voice. So I got up, in the cold, in the middle of the night to see what was wrong with the kitty. She wanted to get in the back end, which we have kept shut off to conserve heat, but did settle for...

Feb 18, 2021 - He was Wrong

We woke up this morning to 25 degrees and none of the heavy snow they predicted overnight. Yay! Kitty even let us sleep in until almost 7 this morning. Then it was coffee in bed with the kitty on my lap while I checked email, facebook, etc. When I tried to answer a message that came in after I had turned off my phone last night I pressed the wrong button (the little camera thingy was flashing so I thought it was ringing) and ended up with a video talk. First thing in the morning is definitely NOT my best time of day. But I enjoyed the...

Feb 17, 2021 - No Sun Today

We started at 25 this morning, so we had high hopes of getting at least to the freezing mark. But that did not happen. The overnight left us with a glaze over the top of everything else that was there, which made getting out of the trailer super treacherous again (or still, but maybe a little more slippery.) The kitty litter I put down is helping but I have not put it over our whole mat. Scott started up the front end loader and broke us a path from our place to theirs, so only immediately in fron of our door and the steps are really bad...

Feb 16, 2021 - Over It

It was really nice to be able to have a good night’s sleep without worrying about running out of propane. That is, I slept while Don worried about the hot water heater. We woke up to 1 degree, partial sunshine, very little wind, and still no water. When I went over to Amber’s, they only had water at the kitchen faucet, with the water in both bathrooms frozen up. This is getting ridiculous! Don went out to drain the hot water heater after it warmed up a bit (9) and that drained ok so he is relieved. When Scott goes in for some supplies we...

Feb 15, 2021 - Snow

The wind howled all night long. There was too much bright light to sleep well. And the smoke alarm in the garage area went off at 3:30 this morning. ARGGGHHHH!!!!. Turned out the alarm got too cold (really? I never knew that would be a thing.) Don did not hear it; good thing I did. While up he replaced the small propane cylinder on the lantern for more heat (and light.) We woke up to 3 degrees, wind and lots of bright sunshine. Hooray! Still no water, and propane nearly gone. Scott’s truck would not start, but ours did, so eventually we...

Feb 14, 2021 - Happy Valentine's Day

The furnace ran most of the night last night since our little heater is still underneath. Good news is that we still have water in the bathroom. Bad news is that we will run out of propane really soon at this rate. We woke up to 23 degrees, and that will be our high for the day. I found a thing on Facebook about how to keep the walk and steps from freezing, so we are trying it out. I will let you know how this works. OK, that was a dismal failure; it is back to the kitty litter. Things disintegrated as the day progressed. We are down to...

Feb 13, 2021 - The last Straw?

My turn to cook dinner tonight, so I got up at a fairly reasonable hour so I could put it in the crockpot. I am fixing Hoppin John cause it is something everyone likes, it is easy, and it is perfect for a cold blustery day. UNFORTUNATELY, we have no water, as our interior pipes have frozen. When I went over to the house to fix dinner in her crockpot, they informed me that their water was also frozen. Good grief!!!!! And we have 2 more days of even colder temps coming! Don took the small space heater from the inside and set it up in the...
