Feb 21, 2020 - Our Last Day

We woke to clear skies for a change, which fueled high hopes that the ground would dry out enough for us to leave tomorrow. It will be bittersweet, as we have greatly enjoyed our time here, but we are ready to move on to the next adventure. I think I mentioned at some point that Trixie was enjoying watching the sheep. Let me explain a bit more. Scott and Amber are trying to build 2 hers of registered Dorper sheep, one for themselves and one for Canaan to work when he is old enough for 4H or FFA. These are pretty sheep, originally from...

Feb 20, 2020 - A Terrible Commute

We got up a little earlier today to drive in to have a late breakfast with Don and Sherry. They picked a French restaurant near the Lakeline Mall, a 50 minute drive for us. But well worth the effort to see good friends. They caught us up on all the goings on of our old company, Rocky Mountain Recreation. Definitely sounds like they will have their hands full this coming summer. And of course they pitched our coming back, but only half-heartedly since they know we are committed to the campground outside of Yellowstone for the summer this...

Feb 19, 2020 - Canaan Cooks

Today was cold and wet, a good day to stay home. I must say, I am really getting tired of winter here! We have been terribly spoiled being at Big Bend where it is generally nice and warm. Even the kitty has been spending time just sitting in front of the heaters in the morning! Not much to do, or at least not much I was willing to do today. I have been doing a lot of crocheting of baby afghans, being 3 behind. So just need to give my hands a break for a while. Scott wanted me to help him make a breakfast casserole for dinner. He claims he...

Feb 18, 2020 - Free and Clear

Don’s last dermatology appointment was today. He got his stitches out, and received news that the biopsy was negative. Yay! So now our plan is to leave here on Saturday, between rain storms. With any luck at all the ground will have dried out enough that we can get out of the yard and back up on the pavement. I have dinner tonight. Planning chicken with roasted potatoes and fresh brussel sprouts. Fitting that in with general cleaning around the trailer.

Feb 16, 2020 - Found One!

We went to the RV expo today with Amber, Scott and the whirling dervish (Canaan.) He managed to charm all the adults around, ending up with 2 baseballs which he tossed and rolled everywhere. He liked looking at the RVs, especially the ones with bunks and attic style rooms, which he crawled into and assigned spots for me and his mom. Although we weren’t necessarily looking to replace our trailer just yet, we did find one we really liked. It is a brand new model, Paradigm by Alliance. Great kitchen and lots of windows. We looked at a 31 foot...

Feb 11, 2020 - Dermatology Appointment

We got Don surgeried today. The doc cut out a fairly good sized cyst out, which was sent for biopsy, although he is pretty sure it is just a fatty cyst and nothing to worry about. After he was stitched up, we tried again for Dahlia’s, with success this time. We even picked up a bourbon pecan pie to have for dinner. Amber immediately said it would be for the next night when Scott’s sister Rochelle and Will were over for burgers.

Feb 11, 2020 - Eye Appointment

Today was the day for Don’s surprise eye appointment. Apparently everything went well, and he won’t be seen for another year. I did make a point of putting this on the calendar for next year! Afterwards we headed to one of our favorite places to eat, Dahlia’s, only to find it closed on Monday. So we went to the Junction in Liberty Hill instead, where I had a huge buffalo chicken salad and Don had an over the top double cheeseburger with bacon and tater tots. Later that evening, after we were settled in our place, I got a text from Amber to...

Feb 9, 2020 - The Weekend

On Saturday we cleaned house and hauled Scott’s plethora of tools off the dining table and outside to get ready for guests. Amber and Scott’s friends, Kim and Eddy and their son Evan, along with Kim’s dad and his fiancé and her granddaughter came over for steaks that evening. I contributed my famous onion dip and a salad; Kim brought cookies and a cake, and Scott did steaks, potatoes and a new (to me) very strange-looking vegetable called romancia. A couple of portabella mushrooms were on hand for Eddy, the only vegetarian of the bunch....

Feb 7, 2020 - Days Off

Amber took Thursday and Friday off so we could hang out together a bit. And also it gave her some time to get some things done around the house since they are still in the building/moving in process. There is not much that we can do to help, although Don has started feeding the sheep, spoiled things that they are. Every time someone steps out the door they start bawling, wanting attention and food. (And Don talks about my kitty!) Amber and I made chicken and dumplings for dinner (and Canaan helped!) Then on Friday we ran a few errands and...

Feb 4, 2020 - Lunch with Friends

Don’s dermatology appointment was rescheduled for tomorrow, so we went to Georgetown to have lunch with Ann and Dan Miller, friends from Rocky Mountain Rec days. It was great to see them and Dan picked a really good restaurant, Blu Corn Harvest Bar and Grill. After lunch we went to 2 different RV sales places to look at new RVs. Not that we are ready to get anything new yet, but it is fun to look!

Feb 1, 2020 - Travel to Liberty Hill

We got packed up (mostly) yesterday so had really good intentions to leave sooner than usual, 9 AM. Ha! We got away, at least out of the campground, by 9:30 but had to stop at PJ to return 2 parts of the radio and sat phone which Don did not get packed to return yesterday. Of course that took a bit of time, what with saying goodbye and all, so we did not get gone for real until 10:30. Still not too bad for us. We did have a wind, but overall not too bad. It was a long day for us. Normally when traveling we only drive 2-300 miles. Today’s...

Jan 2, 2018 - The New Year Begins

Michael left after breakfast on the 27th to drive down to Houston to see his friend, and our previous neighbor, Haap. It is always curious to see what people do with their lives. We knew this young man from junior high and on through high school. We never would have dreamed he would become a tattoo artist with his own shop. Michael had never expressed a desire to have a tattoo so we were a little surprised when we learned of his plans. Haap was supposed to be designing something for him. We told him he had to send pictures. I was expecting...
