Nov 3, 2018 - On Our Way to Phoenix
Our time is winding down here at Twin Dikes at Lake Sam Rayburn. We leave this Friday and are heading back to Phoenix. We have had a great time here, as always. Though the weather hasn’t been ideal we have met some great folks and have had a great time visiting with Mikie and Richard. We enjoyed a brief time with Stacey and Frank. They are new to full timing and Stacey was having a hard time with the planning and route selection so we spent some time together and for better or worse I shared my methods. Sure hope that helps them plan and...Jump to full entry
Oct 6, 2018 - Our First Three Weeks!
We had been on Site #12 for two weeks here at Twin Dikes and on Sunday, September 1st it was time to move to Site #4. Started early because rain was forecast at 10:00AM but we should have started earlier because 10:00 came and the rain arrived at the same time but we had not finished setting up! Rick told me to go inside and so I didn’t get very wet but Rick! Now that is a different story. You know how when you wash clothes and the final rinse is finished but the spin cycle doesn’t work? Well that is how the Rickster looked. Literally...Jump to full entry
Sep 18, 2018 - We're Back at the Lake! Again!
We left Ocean Bay on September 4th and headed southeast to Rick’s favorite fishin’ hole at Lake Sam Rayburn near Jasper, Texas. We especially love the Twin Dikes Corps of Engineers Park. We’ve been coming here since our first year of full timing and have good friends, Richard and Mickie, here. They have been volunteers here for several years and do a terrific job of taking care of this park and welcoming people with a heartfelt, Texas, “Hi, y’all!” Actually, I think the first comment was the day we first pulled in and Rick did a pretty...Jump to full entry
Jun 25, 2017 - Still at the Lake!
As is my usual routine after having coffee and checking up on Facebook, I like to sit down with the computer and my breakfast and catch up on the blogs I follow. Well today, June 18, it took all of 5 minutes! No one was updating! Not even Nick Russell! Well unless you count him having a good friend log onto his account and tell us that Nick was tired and didn’t want to do it today! That is almost like the world coming to an end! Nick blogs every day! Of course that makes me realize that some of my faithful readers have been logging in...Jump to full entry
Jun 4, 2017 - Moving, Raining and Fishing!
Sunday the 22nd was our last day on our favorite site, #7, at Twin Dikes. We had our other favorite site reserved, #19, so yesterday was moving day. Which shouldn’t have been a problem except that it rained all morning and into the afternoon! We had until 2:00pm to be off the site but we checked our NOAA app and it had rain until at least 3:00pm! Well, smarty Rick goes out to the boat and roots around in one of the cabinets and come back in with his rain suit! Where’s mine, I ask. He tells me its back at Bass Pro because I said I didn’t...Jump to full entry
Nov 5, 2016 - Last Stop On The Lake
Here we are at Twin Dikes again! It’s at the southern end of Lake Sam Rayburn. It is one of our favorite campgrounds. Except for Halloween week end, it has been very quiet. Right now there are only 3 rigs in this loop. Us, the volunteer who works at the Corps office and next door an older couple, Pat and Karen who own two of the cutest little West Highland Terriers. Except for the day they arrived the only time we see them is when they get in their car and go someplace. I haven’t seen the dogs out, I am guessing they are paper trained! Rick...Jump to full entry
Oct 23, 2016 - Same Lake, New Site and Different Sights!
On Thursday, Oct 13th, we moved from Twin Dikes to Rayburn Park. We are still on Lake Sam Rayburn but just across the lake on a point. Actually we are just 4 miles from Twin Dikes by boat but since we cannot pull the truck and RV across the lake we had to drive almost 50 miles around the lake to get to this park. And it is a great park. If it had full hook ups it would be darn near perfect! But all the sites in this park are water and electric only. So that means for 10 days we will have to be really, really stingy with our water usage!...Jump to full entry
Oct 12, 2016 - Back on the Boat!
We left Missouri on September 25th and headed south. We spent two nights in the Branson area at the Escapee’s park called Turkey Creek. It was OK for a night or two but since the shows of Branson are not our cup of tea and we didn’t have the boat with us, two nights was almost one night too many! But that’s just us! On Tuesday we got on the road and headed to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Actually we were in Barling at the Corps of Engineers Springhill Park. The Corps runs a lock and dam on the Arkansas River and they have this wonderful park right...Jump to full entry
Nov 7, 2015 - Last Blog From Twin Dikes
It’s almost time for us to pull the trigger and get back on the road again. We have been here at Twin Dikes for 4 weeks and have enjoyed it so much. Well, except when it was raining and the wind was blowing like crazy that one night. Makes me shiver to think about how scary it was. Of course Rick slept through the whole thing and in the morning he’s going “What wind? I didn’t hear any wind!” Grrr! Today we put the boat back in the storage facility. Rick fished yesterday morning and since there were predictions of rain today, he spent the...Jump to full entry
Oct 25, 2015 - Rain, Rain Go Away!
Hey there, we are OK! The last couple of days we have had some phone calls from family wondering if we are floating around Texas! Actually we are doing great! Well, Rick I’m sure would disagree with that statement since all of the rain has kept him off the lake and the boat is sitting next to us all covered up, dry and tidy! Right now, as I mentioned in our previous post we are at Twin Dikes Corp of Engineers RV Park. We are about 12 miles north of Jasper, Texas and about an hour and a half northeast of Houston. Now Dallas/Ft. Worth has...Jump to full entry
Oct 14, 2015 - Back to the Dikes!
We made it! Yay for us! It was an easy 3 day drive from Jefferson City to Lake Sam Rayburn. We are about 20 miles north of Jasper, Texas at Twin Dikes COE Park. And we are on our favorite site, #7. We have a nice view of the lake from the rig and full hook ups. It’s a special park since they have several full hook up sites, Most Corp parks don’t have sewer sites. That means just water and electric and showers in the public shower house. Not my favorite thing to do! Our first night out of Jefferson City we boon docked at the Walmart in...Jump to full entry
Apr 7, 2015 - Last Days at Lake Sam Rayburn
It’s Tuesday morning and Rick left a few minutes ago to go fishing. Our time here at Sam Rayburn Reservoir is almost over for this spring. Thursday we pack up and start heading north. We will be arriving in Jefferson City, MO on Saturday. It has been a spring of such changing weather and here it is, well after April 1st and it is still changeable. Lots of foggy, misty mornings and warm, partly sunny afternoons and of course rain. How else would those May flowers appear without lots of April showers? We have been seeing lots of wildflowers...Jump to full entry
