May 3, 2018 - Fairfield Lake State Park

Stopping and kicking back til Saturday .. then we're on the road again ... Good morning all .. we are saying goodbye to Texas once again... Fairfield Lake State Park is a beautiful park and almost every spot is either on the lake or has a view of the lake. It's a shame it rained almost our whole stay but it did give us a chance to rest a little and catch up on a few episodes of "Homeland". Lots of wildlife here .. besides the usual Armadillo, rabbits, squirrel and deer Jim also came across a bobcat while walking Rocco... he said he didn't...

May 19, 2013 - Fairfield, Texas

We have enjoyed our time in this "back to nature" park in the boonies. :-) We were surprised how far in the woods it was when we arrived, when we got to the gate it was another 5 mile drive into the woods to the campground. We saw wild hogs on the way, 8 huge ones and two babies in the road. After asking one of the rangers about them, we were told they might have been Javelinas. I wish I had time to take pictures, I was too shocked to think of the camera. :-) We drove to the tiny town of Fairfield today and did a bit of exploring, then...

Apr 25, 2009 - Fairfield State Park

Fairfield is on a good size lake and has a power generating plant that discharges warm water. What makes Fairfield different than most lakes is that, because of the warm water temperatures, it is stocked with Red Drum (aka Red Fish). The state record for Inland Red Drum was taken here at Fairfield Lake. (44 inches, 36.83 lbs.) I didn't even know there was such a creature! I talked to some campers here and they say that the best way to catch them is to troll near the discharging area. Maybe I'll try that next year.
