Feb 7, 2016 - Rio Grande Valley-- 2nd stop Victoria Palms RV resort

On Super Bowl Sunday we traveled about 30 miles down the road to a different RV Park: Victoria Palms. We got a special deal, $200 for the month. A very nice park; in retrospect we would consider returning here to winter over. Mostly the temperatures we in the 70s and 80s with a couple of days over 90... one favorite past time was watching the weather report from the north, lol. From there we went down to Mexico for an afternoon visit, back to South Padre Island for the kite festival as well as another trip to the beach. In general, we...

Going West 2014

Apr 28, 2011 - Mission - In Quest of the Perfect Burger

Today we checked off our last place to visit in the Valley. We actually had two destinations, both of them located in the town of Donna approximately 15 miles east of where we are staying here in Mission. Our first stop was to see the first American Legion Hall in the world, yes, that’s “in the world”, located on South Main Street in Donna. Built and owned by Border Post No. 107. It was dedicated in 1920 and was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1969. Was very easy to find and yet unfortunately was all locked up so were unable to...

Nov 30, 2009 - Trip to Donna, Texas

Hi Gang! It's Monday morning and the furnace is blasting away so loud I can just hardly hear the radio. We've got a great radio station here in Corpus it has a continuous supply of the 'Oldies'. Yesterday it was 27 deg C and this morning it's 11 deg. It sure comes and goes! Overcast and the Texas winds are doing their thing. What do you do on a day like this??? Well does the word shopping ring a bell? Rita is at her computer with the shopping list beside her.. adding as things come to mind. We're certainly going to Larry's Store (Best Buy)...

Feb 28, 2009 - Rio Grande Valley, Texas

Well. Heard that you have had some interesting weather in Oregon! On the day you-all reported having 3-4 inches of snow on on "the valley floor", it was almost 100 degrees in the motor home here in Donna, Texas! Wonder if there is a place on earth where it's 75 degrees, sunny, and not humid, all year long? However, Dick and I had the option of dunking in the pool to get cool. The poor cat was comatose though, from the heat. She didn't perk up until later at night, when we turned on the air conditioner, or a cool breeze finally started to...

Feb 20, 2009 - Donna Texas - Rio Grande Valley

Well, here we are, in Donna, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. And, as predicted by the folks in Yuma, it is humid and windy, and often very gray. We can't complain to much, since we aren't working, right? However, if we could do it over again, we would not have committed to staying until April 1, and there are no refunds. But, so be it. We are in the nicest resort by far in the area, Victoria Palms, located just miles from Progresso, Mexico. The population here is about 90% Mexican, and a good portion of the area actually resembles what I...

Mar 1, 2008 - Donna, Texas

We made the long trip to today..... drove a whole 17 miles. Then we went to one of the largest flea markets, and farmers market. The whole valley is full or RVers that spent the winter down here, so needless to say the average age is like 70. I got really tired walking so we left the market early so I could rest again. Starting tomorrow I will try to take some pictures. Well, nothing much to take a picture off...... We did go to Wal Mart yesterday (March 6). It is a big deal for Susan. It is the most entertainment we have had in a while. We...

Jan 4, 2008 - Arrived in the Rio Grande Valley

We brought in the New Year quietly in an RV Park in the little town of La Marque, Texas, just off the freeway between Houston and Galveston. We drove to Galveston Island on New Year's Eve, and enjoyed a very nice day - coffee at Starbucks, a walk through the shops of historic Galveston, a nice lunch at Joe's Crab Shack, and a stop at the beach in the afternoon. It was a warm day, and very relaxing without the hoards of people who frequent Galveston in the summer time. The beach was nice, but not quite as good as we had become accustomed to...
