Apr 18, 2013 - Corpus Christi,TX

Been in Corpus Christi for 3 nights. Have been very busy, the first day we had an all day Bus tour. Seeing Padra Island, Historic district, then touring the King Ranch, and having a wonderful BBQ lunch there. I think the King Ranch owes half of Texas alot of land. Then Day 2 Tour the USS Lexington WWII Aircraft Carrier and then the Texas State Aquarium which we did a behind the scenes tour. Now off to San Antonio Tomorrow.

Feb 28, 2013 - U.S.S. Lexington

If you have ever wanted to visit an aircraft carrier, we can highly recommend the U.S.S. Lexington. This ship is in Corpus Christi harbor and has been turned into a floating museum. It is really neat to be able to go through all the different compartments and areas to see what it was like on this ship. This is a WWII era carrier and was built in Quincy, Massachusetts. Known as the "Lady Lex" it served in combat and, at the end of its commission, as a training vessel. There is so much history involved here that it would take a long time to...

Feb 16, 2013 - Uss Lexington & Columbus Ships

Today was an interesting and educational day. we first went to see the recreated ships of Christopher Columbus. First thing we noticed was how really small the ships were. about the size of todays tugboat. living conditions were terrible and fear of the unknown. some still thought the earth was flat and they would fall off the edge. we were allowed to board the Nina. The science museum that house the ships(out of the water) was also very interesting. More like a history museum , it had a lot of artifacts from the area of Corpus Christi and...

Jan 25, 2013 - Day 193 - Corpus Christi, Texas

We decided to stay another day to get house work done and explore some more of the beach as this will be our last beach until the west coast. I made bread and brownies, vacuumed and dusted. Ron, Rose and Lauren dropped over for a visit when on their way home from horse-back riding on the beach. We sat outside enjoying the sunshine for a couple of hours, then our guests headed for home. We made supper and then watched Twister movie on TV.

Jan 24, 2013 - Day 192 - Corpus Christi, Texas

Today we went back through the city to tour the USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that was active in World War II to 1991. It is now a museum complete with aircraft used on the carrier through the years. It's size is awesome, a true floating city for the crew. Some facts about "The Blue Ghost", so nicknamed by Tokyo Rose in the war as it was erroreously reported sunk four times. It is as tall as a nineteen story building, as long a three New York City blocks. You could play 3 football games or 14 basketball games on it's flight deck at the...

Jan 23, 2013 - Day 191 - to Corpus Christi, Texas

We had only a short drive to Corpus Christi today made twice as long as necessary by not believing the GPS. We route we took went right through center of Corpus Christi on our way to Mustang Island State Park on the barrier island in the Gulf. The State Park was quite open sites against the sand dunes. Each site was quite large and had concrete shelters for the picnic table again. When we got out of the bus we could hear the ocean even though we could not see it. We finished setting up then went for a walk to find the water. The beach is...

Apr 27, 2012 - The wind in Corpus Christi :(

Since we arrived here in Corpus the wind has not stopped blowing. It is a lot like a Santa Ana wind at home except this wind is not as hot. So with that we have changed some of the things we had planned. Wednesday was laundry day. Debi started early getting everything into 2 machines. Oh no one does not work and on the second load the washer failed to spin. After Debi tried to get out as much water as she could it was in the dryer. But it took forever to dry so needless to say that was most of the day. After she returned with the clean...

Apr 24, 2012 - Moving day now we are in Corpus Christi

We packed up this morning and moved on to Corpus Christi located on the north western coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The Padre Islands protect the bay of Corpus Christi where the Navy has both an air station for pilot training and small ships along with the aircraft carrier Lexington. We arrived and got set up in our spot. We are just a short distance from a fishing pier that goes into the bay. The weather is warm but windy and getting more wind the whole time we are here. We will post pictures tomorrow. We will also wash clothes and clean...

Mar 27, 2012 - The Battling Bastards of Bataan...No Mama, No Papa, No Uncle Sam...

Greetings from the great state of Texas, we spent last night in Fort Stockton on our way to the Corpus Christi/Padre Islands. We experienced a huge lightning storm during the night, it was spectacular.... We arrived at White Sands the Wednesday before the race and it was a good thing we there early! By Saturday morning the overflow area was filled with RV’s, 5th wheels, trailers, pop ups and tents of all kinds. We spent our first evening enjoying a sumptuous meal with the New Mexico ESGR committee. They hosted us at the La Posta de Mesilla,...

Mar 7, 2012 - centre ville Corpus Christi
