Apr 24, 2014 - Mexico and Corpus Chisti

This morning I head out after some breakfast to Bronwsville and a short trip across the boarder into Mexico, Matamoros. I only spend a about a hour walking around the area by the boarder picked a magnet and some lunch then back into a very long line to get back to the USA, it took almost a hour but no problems at the borader. Back on the road to Corpus Christi, a short stop walking along the beach checked out the air craft carrier Lexington and to Rock Port for the night.

Wednesday, December 18, 2013 – at Sea – Happy Birthday, Ginny Today we had a unique experience on the sea. Lowell saw a double rainbow while sitting on our verandah. He had me stand in the double rainbow while he took pictures – I think it was to wish Ginny, number 1 daughter, a very Happy Birthday. Thursday, December 19, 2013 – At ROUGH Sea Another day at sea and the sea is getting rougher every hour. The Captain explains he will change course to go around the worst area. By bedtime, the beds a’rocking and we are a’rolling. Around...

Dec 4, 2013 - Corpus Christi, TX

Thursday, November 21, 2013 – Durant to Austin, TX We went to the Choctaw Casino and ate at the $5.50 Senior Breakfast before leaving for Austin. The weather is still cold but nothing like Rock Springs, WY. Lowell and I caravan in the HIS and HER trucks and trailers. During the trip, I received two phone calls from people inquiring about the Casita who passed me and saw the for sale sign in the back window. We arrived at my niece’s house and left the Ridgeline and Casita there and then drove into Corpus to visit with my brother. Friday,...

Jul 11, 2013 - Big Lex and the Beach

This morning we are off to go see Big Lex, which is the USS Lexington, a World War II aircraft carrier. The Lexington was being built before we entered the war but was not commissioned until early 1942. She was in most of the major battles of the Pacific and was the first aircraft carrier to enter Tokyo harbor after the surrender. She wasn't decommissioned until 1991, so she had almost 50 years of service. It was very interesting walking around on the deck that was in so many WWII battles, and was hit by a Japanese plane. After the tour we...

Jul 10, 2013 - Lets check out the beach

Started out the morning needing to go to the library to update the new GPS with the current maps. Well, after I got the download started, I discovered that it would be almost 5 hours to download, well that shoots down this morning, and early afternoon. I finally get done at about 3 PM and get back to the RV, grab a little snack, and it is off to Padre Island. It is just a couple of miles from the base to the island so we were there in no time, and it kind of reminded us of Kauai, touristy but not fancy touristy. There is a lot of open space...

Jul 9, 2013 - We made it to Corpus Christi

Did not have to get such an early start today, in fact we didn't get going till 9 so that we would miss the traffic. Had a nice drive going (on the freeway) right thru the center of San Antonio before heading south to Corpus Christi. A beautiful drive and country, and arrived at Corpus Christi Navel Air Station where we will be staying for the next three nights. Boy did we get a shock when we opened the door of the RV to get out and check in. It was like a slap in the face with a hot wet towel. The humidity and heat were both over 90. By...

May 8, 2013 - Catfish and Carrier

We started our day with a tour of the USS Lexington. That's one big boat!!! It has one powerful story, but I always feel some sadness at the lengths man will go to to kill or harm his fellows. Understand that I am grateful for all the effort and sacrifices that have preserved our liberty. When we left Lexington, Linda shared some Trip Advisor info and we soon found ourselves at Catfish Charlies where you get all the hush puppies you want with your meal and my bride can eat some hush puppies. Add some catfish, shrimp, beans and slaw and you...

May 1, 2013 - May 1, 2013 – Corpus Christi, Texas

May 1, 2013 – Corpus Christi, Texas This morning I headed out to Corpus one more time. My 1st stop was the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center. This is a small botanical garden but worth the time to visit. They have a number of exotic birds like parrots and cockatoos in cages. One of the cockatoos could say a few words such as hello and goodbye, but the funniest was when I walked away. He said, “Come back”. They also have a butterfly house which had a nice selection. A lot of their orchids were in bloom and some were spectacular....

Apr 29, 2013 - April 29, 2013 – Fulton-Rockport, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, and Corpus Christi, Texas

April 29, 2013 – Fulton-Rockport, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, and Corpus Christi, Texas I got a fairly early start this morning about 8:30 a.m. Again there was a parade of RVs headed north. My 1st stop was at Goose Island State Park. They have some nice camp grounds. Some are right on the water and others are in the woods. I can tell you that I wouldn’t want to camp there because the minute I got out of the car to get my permit to enter the park, 3 or 4 mosquitoes flew into the car others landed on me. Fortunately, I had just a few steps to...

Apr 28, 2013 - April 28, 2013 – Refugio, Sinton and Corpus Christi, Texas

April 28, 2013 – Refugio, Sinton and Corpus Christi, Texas On the way to Corpus Christi this morning, I passed through Refugio. There was a big sign board which proclaimed it as the home of Nolan Ryan. There didn’t seem to be anything else to mark his childhood – no statue, home tour, etc. Also, there was a marvelous junk shop which proclaimed on its sign that it had “good junk”. I took quite a few pictures there. There were just so many fun pieces. As I headed toward Corpus, there was a steady stream of RV’s heading north. Most of them...
