Oct 20, 2019 - Canyon Lake, Texas

We arrived at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations Hill Country Resort on Canyon Lake, Texas. I reserved a studio, which is usually very small, but this one was fairly large and had a full kitchen. It took over an hour to get in because our keys didn’t work. I drove back to the Reception Desk where they cut new keys and told me that Security would be at our unit shortly to make sure all was well. All wasn’t well and Security never showed up. The new keys didn’t work so I called the desk and told them. She said that they would send someone over...

Jul 11, 2018 - JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp)

We arrived here at JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) last Saturday and have been busy since then. We're at another military FamCamp and to be honest not as nice as the one we stayed in Gulfport. The reason for being here was to visit my high school friend Mark Antista. Over the last few days we've had a great time visiting and catching up on things. Mark just move here from California and is now living near his son and daughter and his seven grand kids. Mark retired before moving here. Now retired he...

Jan 9, 2018 - Texas Hill Country

Hello to 2018 from beautiful Texas Hill Country! It has been quite a while since I have posted so I have some catching up to do! We put Mo in enclosed storage in the Fostoria/Splendora area northeast of Houston as we had plans to spend some time at the home of our good friends, Jack and Barb in nearby Porter Texas. We felt like the Beverly Hillbillies as we toted our stuff to their house – we had to take clothes for both warm and cold weather, even though the average temp in the winter months isn’t that cold compared to say, the Northeast...

Apr 30, 2016 - BBQ Cook Off Canyon Lake Texas

I have been coming to Canyon Lake TX for three years, and never have been to the Canyon Lake BBQ Cook Off. In my defense, I have always left the area about a week prior to the contest. This year, we are staying a extra 2 weeks, and we had the opportunity to attend this event with several friends. There are 88 pictures on this entry, and I did want to show all the different BBQ cookers. This is the 18th year of this event. For many years, it was held here at the Rio Guadalupe Resort. Then it was moved to other areas and finally here at the...

Mar 27, 2016 - Who says you can't go home again?

Well folks, it’s March… Time to head west, out of the waterlogged southeast and into Texas for the annual family visit. This is usually the only time of year we’re in the vicinity of our home state… So we have a great time catching up with friends, eating great food we can’t find anywhere else in the country, and even a little Monster “mini golf”. (We actually had a list of places to eat before we left Texas: Bill Millers, Sea Island, Chester’s, Whataburger, Las Palapas, and Chick-Fil-A.) Our family visits are probably a lot like yours;...

Feb 8, 2016 - Potter's Creek Park (2/2 - 2/7/16)

Hello from Potter's Creek Park in Canyon Lake, TX. We are staying in another lovely COE (Corps of Engineers) park. We like them because they are always on a lake and are so very well maintained. Our site is lake view and sits next to a very large grassy area. We have a covered picnic table, fire ring and grill. Looking forward to being able to sit outside and enjoy the view. We chose this park so that we could go into San Antonio and not have to stay at a park in the city, even though we are an hour out. Like all the other parks in Texas,...

Dec 12, 2015 - A Christmas Parade in Canyon Lake Texas

December 12 2015, weather forecast was high winds, Rain, Storms and just not the type of weather to watch a parade, even a Christmas Parade. Well, it is a fact, the weather forecasters can always be wrong and never lose their jobs. They sure missed this one. Everyone was prepared for the storm, and had their foul weather gear at the ready. There was no rain, and the winds were mild, and the street was basically dry. Just right for the folks that had to walk the 1.5 miles of the parade route. This is the Biggest Christmas Parade in Comal...

Nov 23, 2015 - Guadalupe River Trail

It was a typical Hill Country Texas day in November, with a Bright Sun and Wall to Wall Blue Skies. There is a trail about 2 miles from our camp at Rio Raft, which I have never been. I had a brand new pair of REI Hiking Pants and a brand new pair of Keene Hiking boots and felt they, as well as myself, needed a little stroll in the woods. Canyon Lake, Texas is located between Austin and San Antonio and just minutes from New Braunfels, Gruene, Bulverde, and Sattler Texas. Canyon Lake has miles of shoreline and the Guadalupe River as it comes...

Mar 26, 2015 - One CRAZY month!

Please excuse the less-than-literary writing of this entry, I tried to condense a month of hectic activity into 5 minutes of reading. If it seems to jump around a bit... it is. We ended February with high hopes, and a little anxiousness. We were headed to Texas carrying a list of 12 tasks to complete in 30 days, scheduled around family & friends, of course. The odds of all that coming together without a hitch, (pun intended) were slim… but I felt like with some pre-planning and communication we could pull it off. In early February, I began...

Feb 21, 2015 - The Annual Trout Fest 2015

The Trout Fest is held every year at the Rio Raft Resort, and this year it was the biggest one I have ever seen. There were many Casting Seminars, and I took pictures of several of them. These seminars were held all day both Saturday and Sunday. In addition the attendees had several seminars on how to fish for the elusive trout in the Texas Trout Streams. Like most rallies there are always items for sale, that you could not live without. The pictures tell just part of the story. This is the link for the trout Fest information. Click HERE...

Nov 22, 2014 - Texas Hill Country Trip - Day 1

November 8, 2014 (Saturday) Mama and I are spending the week in the Hill Country. We are staying on Canyon Lake which is between Austin and San Antonio. I picked her up this morning about 10, we then went to Denton and dropped off some DVDs I had made for my cousin. We stopped in West to eat lunch and to see where the fertilizer plant had exploded back in April 2013. The explosion was on the Northeast side of town. For some reason when it happen I was thinking it was on the South side of town. All the homes except for 1 had been torn down...
