Apr 27, 2019 - Dinner Party

Gwen invited her daughter Jen and her sister Kathleen for dinner today. Gwen made a fabulous chicken, pineapple, cranberry dip as an hors d'oeuvre and I made chicken cacciatore for entree. Broccoli with garlic and lemon was the veggie and lots of bread to sop up the sauce. Desert ( served later) was strawberry shortcake. What a nice sendoff since this is my last day in Buda. It is so easy to be with Gwen and her family. I hope she never gets tired of having me stop in .

Apr 23, 2019 - Fort Stockton to Buda

Windshield wipers were working for most of the 335 mile drive today. Once I hit Johnson City the rain stopped and I had a chance to photograph the beautiful and bountiful wildflowers that line every highway and side road in Texas at this time of year. The further east I got the more abundant the yellow flowers were. Bluebonnets are almost done so there were less patches of blue. So good to be able to spend time with Gwen. We've got our work cut out for us this visit since I am in the market for another car - either lease or buy. We are in...

Apr 5, 2018 - Bluebonnets Blooming in Buda

Bluebonnets were blooming all over the road from San Angelo to Buda . When Gwen and I went for a bite to eat we saw a huge patch of blue and pulled to the side of the road to take some pictures. So good to see my friend again. We are in touch throughout the winter but there is still so much talk about when we get together. Nice to just relax. The next few days are planned with fun things to do in this part of Texas. Took care of a major item of business today when I got my driver's license renewed. I'm good until 2024. Think I'll still be...

Sep 17, 2017 - Missing Dale

Seemed strange to walk into Gwen and Dale's home and not get a hug from Dale. He passed away a couple of weeks ago and Gwen is missing him so. I could say " been there-done that " but it wouldn't be accurate because truth is I've "been there - STILL DOING THAT". I see the grief in Gwen's face, hear it in her voice, and I know from experience that nothing I say really makes a difference. Time will take care of that but right now the pain is too raw. I hate seeing my dear friend having to go through the process of losing her beloved husband...

Oct 3, 2016 - DMV, Haircut, Chinese Lunch, HEB

Gwen and I had a list of things to get done today. We waited for qute some time at the DMV to get my question answered about registration and inspection of my car. After getting a satisfatory explanation of what needs to be done, Gwen dropped me at the hair salon to get a much needed haircut. Is there delicious Chinese food in Buda Texas? YES! Lunch at the Beijing Bistro was a wonderful surprise. Then it was off to HEB - probably my favorite large supermarket. We bought everything necessary for our food contribution to the neighborhood...

Oct 1, 2016 - Lunch With Friends in Buda

Told Gwen that I woud arrive at her house in Buda by noon. I was ten minutes late and had an entire reception committee waiting to whisk me to Garia's for lunch. There is so much construction on I35S that I felt lucky to have been only ten minutes behind schedule. It is so nice to be with these lovely people again. Unfortunately, I see a big difference in Dale's condition. The Parkinsons is really taking it's toll on his body and his mind. Breaks my heart because Dale is one of the "good guys" on this planet.

Sep 29, 2015 - Dinner Party

Gwen and Dale hosted a dinner party this evening so I could be introduced to two couples in the neighborhood - G&D's best friends. We had a delightful evening. Gwen grilled pork tenderloin and lots of veggies and I made a fruit bowl and a tomato, mozzarella, basil salad. The food was accompanied by some really terrific wines. This morning Gwen and I went to HEB and did some power grocery shopping and it paid off. Everyone said the food was delicious. I enjoyed meeting the people that Gwen talks about and hope to be back someday to spent...

Sep 26, 2014 - A Wonderful Welcome

Gwen and Dale were waiting for me with open arms. After the tour of their beautiful new condo, they were excited to take me to a small out of the way BBQ restaurant they recently discovered. The place looked dumpy from the outside but it was the best BBQ I have ever eaten. Leave it to Gwen to find the place. Everything we ordered from brisket to turkey, mac and cheese to onion rings was delicious- notice I said delicious and not healthy! We stepped next door for dessert. Gwen had been wanting to try the pie place but hadn't tested it out....

Jul 20, 2011 - Daisy’s Doctor Appointment

As is so often the case when you take a vehicle to the mechanic or technician, when the Crestview technician checked my roof air conditioner, it refused to manifest its problem. I just hope it will continue to operate well. I changed its filters and bought two more sets to have on hand. Late this morning Karen picked me up and we went to see our friend, Bernice Polvado, in the care center. That poor little woman has suffered for over three years after a fall on her patio. She had several surgeries from which she has never fully recovered....

Jul 19, 2011 - To Crestview RV Center

Before 8:00 this morning I was on my way to Buda to have some work done on Daisy at Crestview RV Center. When I arrived, I learned that there is no chassis mechanic on duty today; one is on vacation and the other is in the hospital. One will be back tomorrow, though, so the work will be done then. I’ll spend tonight and Wednesday night in their RV park. I had a coupon for two free nights. Yeah! The primary need is to have them determine what is causing my whole rig to vibrate. I start to notice it at about 40-45 mph and it is really...

Oct 15, 2009 - Lyndon and Lady Bird

Three good hours at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum - Thursday, October 15 Today we headed for the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum on the University of Texas campus in the capital city of Austin. Austin is an hour’s drive southeast from Lampasas and it’s an easy drive through the scenic Texas ‘hill country’. Austin is a bigger city than I had expected, but with the help of our GPS, Madolyn’s navigation and some well placed freeway signs, we found the university and the LBJ Library parking lot without much trouble. The parking...

Feb 12, 2009 - Buda TX

We have driven through Buda TX several times on our way to the Cracker Barrel or Cabelas outdoor store. Nice community. Here is a brief rundown Buda is a relaxing, friendly town and a great place to live, work, and visit. Folks in Buda enjoy the advantages of nearby Austin, being about 15 - 20 minutes from downtown Austin, while celebrating the tranquility and high quality of life of a small hometown. Main Street has retained its "olde time" look and Buda is well known for its antique downtown shopping in the original buildings. Have a...
