(Note: Double click on first photo to enlarge to size of your screen, click on slideshow, then click on 5 sec. to automatically advance photos). Thursday, July 28, 2016 - Busy day of sight seeing! Our first stop for the day was the Cadillac Ranch located in a field of maize on I-40 west of Amarillo between exits 60 and 62. Cadillac Ranch was created and built in 1974 by the artists, Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, a group of art hippies called the Ant Farm. Billionaire Stanley Marsh III wanted a piece of public art that would...

Jul 27, 2016 - On the Road Again (FINALLY)

(Note: Double click on the first photo to enlarge to size of screen, click on slideshow and then 5 sec. to automatically advance photos). Tuesday, July 26, 2016 - We're finally on the road again, heading North in search of cooler weather. Some of you may know that we've had mechanical problems with our 2011 Tiffin Allegro Bus this year. Southern Plains, a Cummings dealer in Houston, had it for about three months, from Feb. 28th until late May, making extensive repairs to the engine. Thankfully, most of the repairs were covered under...

Jul 25, 2016 - Amarillo TX

Sorry for the delayed post...we have been in the bottom of a canyon for 3 days without cell phones or internet. Really; we were. The A/C guys in Houston had us back up and running by a little after 11:00 and we came through it only $400 poorer...which is a dang sight better than the $1,400 I had envisioned a whole new unit costing us. I guess we got lucky. Till the next time. The trip north from Houston was great – moderate traffic, no rain or wind and a mostly smooth road. Then the gremlins came out just as soon as we hit downtown Dallas....

Jul 12, 2016 - Oasis RV park - Amarillo, TX

This morning it was 69, and this afternoon it was 108. We went to the Cadillac ranch first thing this morning and then went to Palo Duro canyon. Palo Duro was fantastic, we took the jeep all the way down and made many stops along the way. They have RV sites down in the canyon that look very nice. We went back to the RV site with a Jason's muffuletta and had a great lunch. We then went to the pool to cool off. In the evening we went to the Big Texan steak house and had a wonderful dinner. We are ready to move on to Sky City, NM.

Jul 11, 2016 - Oasis RV park - Amarillo, TX

Arrived in Amarillo at Oasis RV park. We have had record heat of 108 today. Going to Palo Duro canyon in the morning. Saw the awesome wind turbines today. Going to take a dip in the pool to cool off. Lucy got a bath outside and the cement, in the shade, was dry in 20 minutes.

Jul 5, 2016 - Blowing in Amarillo

So July 4th was uneventful. We had some fireworks but Foxy survived them all. She seems to be less sensitive to the loud pops as she gets older. So, we decided to get away for a couple of weeks and head for New Mexico. Today, we made the drive to Amarillo, and it is blowing here. Wind gusts are up to 30 mph, not a fun thing in a wide open RV Park. They had warnings for the airport but everything quieted down after 9 o'clock. Tomorrow, we want to get to Santa Fe.

Jun 15, 2016 - Still on the road

We are still on the road and doing well. Last night we stopped a little earlier, about 7:30, as we were all tired after driving so late the two previous nights. We were in Oklahoma and pulled into a casino parking lot in a private corner and set up the motor home. It gave us a good chance to move around and stretch our old creaky joints. Adult choices: how to spend your quarters, slot machines or laundromat. Does it tell you what we did if I say we are wearing dirty clothes the rest of the trip? Not! We hit the road early today with good...

May 29, 2016 - Amarillo Day 2 and 3

After our busy day exploring Palo Duro Canyon yesterday we had dinner at Hoffbrau Steak House, an Amarillo landmark. We had a great meal (steak of course, this is Texas) and everyone enjoyed it very much. After dinner we visited The Cadillac Ranch, another local landmark where 10 Cadillac's ranging from years 1949 to 1963 were buried fins up along Route 66. That was in 1974 and since then millions of visitors have added their "talents" to decorate the cars. On Sunday morning (fittingly) we visited the giant cross and shrine depicting the...

May 28, 2016 - Amarillo, Texas

Our trip from Sunset Texas to Amarillo Texas was a pleasant 289 mile drive almost entirely on US-287 North, finally reaching I-40 just prior to Amarillo. After a night of rain and wind in Sunset on Thursday night, the RV Park was surprisingly dry by early morning, and we departed under mostly cloudy skies. Most of our trip was under sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 70's and breezy. US-287 is a 4 lane divided highway most of the time with speed limits of 75 mph (yea really), however it does go right through many small and very small...

May 15, 2016 - Amarillo, TX

We left Abilene around 10am and stopped for breakfast on the west side of the city just off I-20. Then it was about another 4 1/2 hours to Amarillo. Definitely a long day on the road. We had some rain but mostly the temperature was an issue. We had the heat in the RV cranked up and by the time we got to Amarillo it felt ridiculously cold due to rain and the usual crazy wind. There’s never been a time that we’ve been in this city where the wind hasn’t been wild. Well, by the time we got to our site, the wind was causing the rain to come...

May 6, 2016 - "Amarillo by Morning"

I visit Amarillo at least once every year. Why, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, that why. This visit I saw a BIG guy eat the 72oz steak and all the trimmings in less than an hour. Price is $72 if you fail and FREE if you succeed. He looked more than ready for another. Me, I had the same cut, but it was only 21oz, and I was stuffed!...
