Jul 16, 2019 - Devils Tower and into SD

Well…well…well… Today: For about a year or more, we have been talking about doing what a lot of full-time RVers do and change their residency to South Dakota. All the “experts” on their travel blogs tout how much annual income they save by doing this. So, being the cheapskates we are, we had decided long ago to jump on the band-wagon. Today was THE day. Yes…that is right…after talking about this for TWO years, today was THE day. We arrived at one of the most prominent mail-box/residency agencies in the US, (y’all would have been proud of...

One Day @ a Time

Feb 15, 2018 - Taking care of legalities.

Leaving the Fox in Clarkston, Claudia and I have driven to Box Elder South Dakota to get driver's license and to take care of other legal stuff. We are staying at a motel belonging to Americas Mailbox. This is a company that caters to Full Time RV'ers. They helped us get all of the legal residency matters resolved, so Claudia and I are residents of South Dakota. I strongly recommend America's Mailbox. Their sense of customer service could not be better. Changing residency has been much easier than I had expected. Our drive here was...

May 30, 2017 - Box Elder SD

Tue, 30 May: Back "home" in Box Elder... Today's short-ish drive took us from Lusk Wyoming to our "home base" in Box Elder South Dakota. We refer to this as our home base as it is where our mailing service is located and our official address. We don't get here very often, but this year we must spend thirty days "at home" to satisfy our legal residency requirements. Hence, we'll be here till late June. It got fairly cool overnite in Lusk Wyoming where we were boondocking in the Outpost Truck Stop parking lot. We piled up an extra blanket and...

Sep 25, 2016 - Ellsworth AFB Air and Space Museum

The Air and Space museum is just outside of the main gate of the base. Very nice display of airplanes on the outside and interesting historic displays inside. Mike was able to show me some of the types of planes he worked on when he was active duty. Worth a visit!

Sep 20, 2016 - Welcome Home

We are home! We checked in to America's mailbox RV park and the first thing they said to us was Welcome home! They also have a huge sign behind the counter saying the same thing. We got checked in and they immediately got us going into the right direction as far as getting our domicile done. They also have a lot of suggestions on local things to see. The next couple of days will be getting stuff done.

Aug 29, 2014 - Box Elder, SD

Friday, 29 Aug: An easy day despite the South Dakota winds... Yesterday we crossed into the Mountain Timezone so we went to bed based on Central Time. Hence, when we had enough sleep and opened our eyes it was only six, yet daylite was poking around the shades. Nothing like an early start. We boondocked overnite so we were functioning in the no 120v AC mode. We are used to this as we love to boondock. No worries mate, Sandi dug out her water kettle and got the water going for tea. Normally we use an electric kettle, but when boondocking the...

Aug 19, 2014 - Custer State Park, Trip 2

You never know what animals you will encounter when you drive through Custer State Park in South Dakota. This was my Sunday type of ride and we did it on a Tuesday. It was mid morning when we left the camp and we arrived in Custer 30 minutes later. If you plan on coming out here and staying more than a week, think about buying the annual Custer Park pass for 30 dollars. The 1-7 day pass is 15 dollars so the 30 is a good investment if you are going to be longer than 7 days. You never know what will be a good day to see the wildlife in...

Aug 16, 2014 - Ellsworth AFB Box Elder South Dakota

Ellsworth Air Force Base, here in Box Elder was host to the Community Appreciation Day. The base was restricted to one hangar, adjacent tarmac and a good visual of the major runways. With the places we travel, I very seldom run into any type of security. Today was a little different scenario. There were armed guards and road blocks, so that you only had a specific route you could follow. The military guys and gals were all friendly but just doing one of their jobs. I still like my way of traveling the best. Out of the way places, where I...

Aug 8, 2014 - RV Travel Sometimes Means Repairs

This is not a travel entry, but a modified copy of what I published on our facebook page. I thought you would find it of interest. When I first started RVing I started hearing the stories about campground water and water pressure. Water pressure can vary from campground to campground and ranges for 25 to over 90 lbs of pressure. That presents a problem for RVers. Many RV’s have PEX Piping and it can stand up to 150 lbs of pressure. Some connectors, depending how there were installed, and the type, sometimes will take 80 lbs of pressure....

Jun 3, 2014 - Americas Mailbox

Americas Mailbox located in Box Elder South Dakota was started by Full Time RVers Don & Barb Humes. As Full Time RVers they realized the service opportunities they could provide. South Dakota laws gave them the advantage of not only providing Mail Forwarding, but, Vehicle Registration, Drivers License & Voter Registration. Without owning any property or acquiring an LLC anyone could make South Dakota their domicile/residency. I chose AM not only for the above services, but also because SD Vehicle Registration only charges 3% Sales Tax! I...

Jul 10, 2013 - Box Elder SD We Have Arrived

Our trip from Ohio to South Dakota was okay other than the rain in Ohio and parts of Indiana. It took about 25 hours driving time to get here, and it was nice to get back to the western U.S. again. I am officially a SD Resident. I have a Drivers License, I am registered to Vote and my vehicles are also registered here. For those that have expressed interest in the registration procedure it was pretty easy. Drivers license just took a visit to the Highway Patrol, show the simple paperwork, take a eye test and that was it. Once we get settled...
