Sep 3, 2012 - Through The Black Hills

Left the Walmart about 10:30 today (after doing some shopping) and followed I90 through a corner of Wyoming and into The Black Hills of South Dakota. It's easy driving but not much to see unless you're into range land. I'm now in the middle of South Dakota at a KOA campground near Belvidere and will drop down even further south tomorrow to highway 94 which goes pretty much straight through to Chicago. That means that tomorrow I will travel the corn fields of Nebraska and maybe Iowa. At least the weather's been great! Cheers.

Jun 11, 2012 - Day 4...How red is your valley?

Day 4...So far we have travelled a total of 1,355 miles and have traversed 4 states. Still have 4 more states to go til we hit Ohio. So we are averaging almost 340 miles a day. Wyoming is pretty ...lots of green rolling hills but a lot of clay in the dirt. I think that is why the roads are red..either that or they need to know where the roads are when they are covered with snow...*shrugs* Our first stop...well..it didn't seem to have a name. Just a spot halfway between Buffalo and Gillette Wyoming. Not much at this spot..but it was...

Jul 28, 2010 - Casper, WY to Belvidere, SD

Left Casper ~7:25 AM (MT)- it is mostly overcast & cool, but feels like it will get pretty hot today. The campground wasn't too bad, just wanted something a little "friendlier" I guess. Grass is a good start! Right next to the RV Park is the museum & re-created Fort Casper. It was still closed of course, but we walked around the grounds of the Fort & took a few photos & scared up a couple of rabbits. A lot of history here, Oregon Trail & Mormon Trail both went thru this area - on the banks of the N. Platte River. I am always in awe of what...

Jun 29, 2008 - Belvidere SD

Yesterday was such a windy day that the trucks were pulling off the road, thankfully we did not move until today. We did over 330 miles today fighting a head wind and a steady slight climb all the way. The neat thing is the speed limit here in SD is 75 miles per hour. We did not do that, we were between 65 - 70 mph and only getting 6.5 miles per gallon. We stopped and checked out a couple of things today, one in Mitchell which was a corn palace. This was suppose to be a palace made out of corn cobs, husks and the hair. The building was a...

Jun 15, 2007 - On to Rapid City and the Bad Lands Journey 2d

We left Cherokee this morning and headed toward Rapid City, S. Dakota. We traveled to I-90 and drove west. On the way, we stopped for fuel/food and I spotted a neat sign for a restaurant . We didn't go in because, in the interest of time, we like to eat in the camper when we're "on the road". We traveled a bit further and came upon the Missouri River which has a historic visiting site where you can read about many things . We traversed the bridge and saw more beautiful countryside. We had been looking at the state maps and decided...
