Sep 1, 2019 - Rhythm and Roots
Sunday 1st Sep 2019 Happy birthday Margaret! Today we are off to an outdoor concert, Rhythym and Roots in Charlestown. This is their 22nd year, a three day concert of creole music and food. We pack a hamper, or two, and replace the jugs of iced teas, one with Pimms and another with vodka. At a glance you cannot tell, we just hope they don’t want to open them and check! The road is busy with holiday traffic, but it flows well. We pay for tickets to the concert as Alex and Louanne have done so much for us while here. US$370 for the five of...

Aug 29, 2019 - Providence, Rhode Is
Thursday 29 Aug 2019 We checked out of Copenhagen Backpackers and crossed the road to the railway station. On the way we see an innovative bike park design, when you run out of room you just create a double decker bike stand… and even then there was not enough stands for all the bikes. It was a bit of a mission sorting out the train tickets, because the departure boards don’t actually mention the airport. We have a rough idea, and head down the stairs to the platform. It is not a long wait for the train, it is there waiting, we just have...

Aug 12, 2019 - Cliff Walk and More
Original plan called for doing the Cliff Walk then taking a trolley tour. Talking to the guy at the visitor’s center he convinced me I should book my trolley tour immediately to be sure they don’t sell out. So, I booked a 1:30 tour figuring I could easily be back by then. While I was standing there waiting for the RIPTA (public transportation) trolley I thought I really don’t want to feel rushed on the Cliff Walk. In a eureka moment I said to myself “Wait. Why not take the 10 o’clock trolley tour and then do the Cliff Walk?”. No reason not...

Aug 11, 2019 - Newport RI
Easy drive down from Boston. GPS threw me at first because I assumed, I’d come down I-95 to Providence then some other route down to Newport. But just a couple of miles from the hotel is Mass route 24 which becomes RI 24 and takes you almost the entire way into Newport. Looking at Google Maps it’s 6 of one and half dozen of the other between the two routes. After stopping in Middletown for some breakfast headed to Fort Adams State Park south of downtown Newport at the far end of the Peninsula. Took a tour of the Fort and upgraded to the...

Jun 9, 2019 - Rhode island
We took rt 1 along the Connecticut shore and went through Stonington, a beautiful old seaside village with tons of gorgeous old homes. We got into RI and stopped first at the Charlestown breachway cg but it was just a wide open field with RVs parked side by side. We went on up to Fisherman's memorial cg and got a site for $25. No ocean view but a great seafood market nearby called Ferry Wharf where we bought clams and scallops. We walked around the docks and found Foggys bar overlooking the bay. Bill started talking to a fishing captain...

Sep 21, 2018 - Easy Bay Bike Path
"With spectacular maritime views and an abundance of coastal wildlife, the East Bay Bike Path offers a spectacular New England experience. Inducted into the Rail-Trail Hall of Fame in 2009, the route is one of the most popular multiuse trails in Rhode Island. The paved pathway travels just over 14 miles between Providence and Bristol, visiting eight parks as it skirts the historical water-fronts that played roles in local shipbuilding, transoceanic trade, and manufacturing." Sep 20, 2018 - Newport Harbor, Ocean Drive, and the Cliff Walk
We drove into Newport and parked at the visitors' center. Although we were able to capture a picture of the Newport Light, armed police officers turned us away from the access to Goat Island. We walked through a neighborhood and the wharf area. After lunch, we drove the Ocean Drive. It did in fact drive along the coast and was beautiful. After making our way to Easton Beach where we found parking, we walked 2/3 mile of the Cliff Walk. We had decided against doing any of the mansion tours. "Newport police officers are working security detail...

Sep 19, 2018 - Travel to Portsmouth, Rhode Island
It was a wet and dreary day as we departed Scusset Beach Campground. We arrived at the campground in Portsmouth at noon. The campground is owned by the town and is very nice. After such a "long" drive today, we relaxed for the afternoon. The picture shows just a hint of color developing in the trees. 46 miles Melville Pond RV Park F/h; 50 amp; cable; Wifi Direct Satellite Reception

Sep 10, 2018 - Providence, Rhode Island
Our trip to Providence, Rhode Island was “short but very sweet”. We were pleasantly surprised to learn what a significant role this smallest of states in the United States played in our country’s history. Rhode Island has several “claims to fame”. #1 – It is the smallest state in the United States. #2 – It was the first colony to advocate for and protect the right of religious freedom and separation of church and state. Roger Williams was a Puritan minister who founded the Colony of Rhode Island. He was a staunch advocate for religious...

Jul 26, 2018 - Martha's Vineyard
Today we took a ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard. The ferry was a 45 minute ride and our bus was able to accompany us. Ron was then able to take us on a tour of the island and then we were dropped off to explore on our own. We visited the beach where "Jaws" was filmed. We also took in all the gingerbread houses, a lighthouse and other quaint attractions on the Island.

Sat., June 2nd – Today Steve and I drove the entire length of New Jersey through the backroads to our stop in Florida, NY at the Black Bear Campground. We passed by Princeton University and later paid a $16 toll to cross the river into PA. They really get you when you’re pulling a 5th wheel along behind. It would have been $1 for a car! Sun., June 3rd – The Fergusons arrived in the late afternoon. We’re ready to start our travels together for the next 8 weeks. Mon., June 4th – It was a soggy day for traveling to Hope Valley, Rhode Island...

Sep 25, 2017 - New England Road Trip - pretty as a picture
Sorry to leave comfortable and interesting Boston behind. I loved the house and neighbourhood we were staying in and there was still so much left to see and do in Boston. Such a pretty and interesting city but, we never really seem to have enough time anywhere. Cameron headed out to collect our hire car early this morning whilst I had a lovely long walk around the Savin Hill Bay Area where we were staying, enjoying the marina. The first stop on our road trip was in Plymouth, a pretty if somewhat sleepy little seaside town where we inspected...
