Oct 1, 2019 - Seaside & Astoria

Our adventure took us back down the Oregon coast to the Cape Mears area where we saw the Cape Mears Lighthouse, the shortest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. A picture of the lighthouse is included in this update. Returning through Tillamook, we stopped at a second cheese producer called Blue Heron, which is a family run business. This is a much smaller concern than the Tillamook Creamery, but has a "homier" type feeling. One can sample their excellent Brie cheeses, some delicious preserves (such a Raspberry or Huckleberry), and even some...

Aug 30, 2019 - Seaside OR – Seaside RV Resort

Back at the ocean, we came back to Seaside OR. The funny thing here is that when we came here last year, it just happened to be the last day of the annual Hood to Coast relay race. The race is the largest running and walking race in the world and covers roughly 200 miles from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast. This year, we got into Seaside too late for the end, but guess where we were the day the race started? That’s right, Welches OR. We arrived there the day the race started and got to see some of the runners as they made their way down the...

Retired at Last!

Aug 24, 2018 - Seaside OR – Seaside RV Resort

Got some pretty good clam chowder for dinner one night at a place called Dooger’s in downtown Seaside. The town was crowded with tourists in part because this was the weekend of the Hood to Coast run. An annual event, relay teams from all over the world come to Oregon to run the 199 miles from Mount Hood to Seaside OR. In fact, the team that won this year was from Japan. It’s a two day race that ended on Saturday, which was also the day we left. Guess where the runners raced in Seaside? They came into town on the route we would normally use...

May 8, 2018 - It turned out to be a perfect first day!

We are officially on the TransAmerica route! No more false starts or almost there stories! We have begun! And this is how is started . . . 6AM alarm, slide the curtain aside to look outside . . . FOG! Fog down to the ground! Could not even see the river, really??? On our first day? My first thought was, "but I had so many good omens yesterday"! The weather forecast was going to get worse before it got better, but we thought we could get to at least Seaside before the rain rolled in. So once again I was dragging my feet, but still moving...

Jul 2, 2015 - Back to TT Seaside, yippee!

We departed Whalers Rest on the morning of June 30 at 9:30, driving the 125 miles north to the town of Seaside. It's an easy drive to make though a slow one. We stopped only once along the way, at Tillamook Cheese Factory to get some cheeses we especially like. Driving along Hwy 101 is NOT fast, don't expect it to be, you'll be disappointed, frustrated and maybe take chances that are unhealthy. When we drive on the freeways our GPS calculated average speed is 58 mph, along the coastal highway we average 41! What with the curves, small...

Jun 14, 2015 - The Last Week in Seaside, OR and into Randle, WA

Our last week in Seaside didn’t really improve weather wise. I don’t think we had as many rainy days but we definitely didn’t see the sun until mid afternoon on most days & we both agreed that, being from AZ where you see the sun at 6 a.m., this gloominess could get depressing......at least in our opinion. We were still in the 50’s most days with misty mornings.......all typical beach weather in June. Dick really does a great job of keeping the motorhome and the car clean so when weather permitted, and he had a chance, he cleaned off all...

Jun 7, 2015 - Seaside, OR

We enjoyed a quiet Sunday last week in Meridian, ID. We did venture out and run a couple of errands and drove around Boise a bit, enjoyed a nice lunch but then returned home to finish up laundry, watch the Nascar race, and take a nap. Monday we traveled as far as Stanfield, OR, only 237 miles, but it was a lot of up and down and around on I-84 but interstate all the way. As I said last week, we were just ‘killing time’ as our reservations didn’t start in Seaside, OR until Tuesday so we stopped in Stanfield at a RV park owned and operated...

Nov 3, 2014 - Seaside, Oregon

Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2014 We stopped across the Columbia River and enjoyed being with Leo, Sadie, and their parents. Since it was the day before Halloween, Nana took treats for Leo and Sadie. The following day we took the RV to the Oregon Coast at Seaside. We stayed in the Circle Creek RV Park. It’s a nicely cared for park and is on the south side of town. The RV Park had full hook-ups, including WIFI and cable TV. Friends Bill and Marlene were staying in the Seaside WorldMark. We got together with them over the next couple of days. We...

Sep 23, 2014 - TT Seaside, at Seaside, OR

Another tough day driving, 34 miles made the Diesel engine barely get warm. The toughest part was the Astoria bridge over the Columbia River ! This preserve is one of our favorites due to the park, it's manager and the community. This is the time of the year to be in this area. Actually, this it the time of year to be along the Washington and Oregon coastline, period! There are few crowds and we have access to all the neat stuff without others elbowing and shoving. If you plan on coming to these last two stop of ours, Long Beach, WA and...
