Jun 17, 2019 - LaGrande OR - Grande Hot Springs RV Resort

La Grande is the first real stop on this year’s journey. It’s the site of the annual NROA (Northwood RV Owners Association) rally. Folks like us who own Arctic Fox 5th wheels, trailers and truck campers as well as other Northwood camping units come together for a week of fun, food, educational sessions and mayhem. This is our first year to attend. It was really neat to see all those Arctic Foxes parked in a campground. The last two nights of the event, the campground was sold out. The owners said that was the first time that had ever...

May 23, 2019 - La Grande OR

La Grande OR Day 7: Wednesday May 22, 2019 It was raining when we got up this morning; fortunately it had stopped by the time we needed to get ready to leave. This was one of the longest segments of our summer trip—296 miles so we were on the road by 8:30 am—though we gained an hour after the Oregon border (changing from Mountain Daylight to Pacific Daylight Time). We fueled at the Flying J Truck Stop between the RV Park and the freeway. About 20 minutes after fueling it started to rain and it was heavy (much like the past two days). The...

Apr 7, 2019 - La Grande Oregon

Staying at the Grande Hot Springs Resort. it was 2 miles of the interstate on a wet gravel road. As slow as I drove the mud flew everywhere. This place has a flood alert for the local river in La Grande wherever that is. This area is all low and getting soggy, hoping we don't need hip waders in the morning, Its a nice enough place but the road access sucks big time.Because of this I would not recommend coming here. Apparently the GPS will always bring drivers in the long way when there is a much shorter dirt road to get here. Smooth driving...

Sep 19, 2018 - LaGrande OR - Grande Hot Springs RV Resort

We stopped here so we could tour the Northwood Manufacturing facilities where our 5th wheel was made. Roger had a few things he wanted to check out, like where the sensors are in our water tanks and what’s behind the wall next to his chair (he wants to put in a window). We also wanted to check out the RV park. There’s a Northwood (Arctic Fox, etc.) rally there every year and we might go to one sometime. Also got a lead on a former Northwood employee who now has an RV repair shop, if we ever need one.

Jul 13, 2017 - Made it our of Salt Lake

Salt Lake was not on our list of places to stop. Since we had no choice, we made the most of this unexpected, unplanned 6 day delay. I have to say I was in waterfall heaven. Most people know that I love waterfalls. I am always making Steve hike to whatever waterfall I find in guide books or tourist information suggestions. Salt Lake had some exceptional waterfalls that were just a short drive away, and luckily for Steve, also short hikes away. Here are some of the beautiful waterfalls we saw on our journeys to the mountains to avoid the...

Jun 26, 2017 - Laundry, shopping

June 26, 2017, Laundry and shopping today. Headed out to Wal-Mart, Also taking pictures of me and my piece of wood. The theme for the 2018 Northwest Area Rally is “Milling around in Coos Bay”. We were given a piece of wood and told to take pictures of us and the wood at different places and send them to Bobbi. So, I took my wood and got several pictures to send it. A friend’s grandson and his wife own 2 coffee shops here so we are off to find them. Unfortunately, Jenna was not at either shop. Back home to a cooled rig. It is still hot...

Apr 22, 2017 - Following the Oregon Trail

We decided to stay an extra day in Glenns Ferry on Thursday because the weather forecast was for high winds and rain, not good for driving. We didn't get the rain, but the wind sure did blow again. I'm glad we decided to stay. Instead of hanging around Winnie all day we drove about 25 miles to Brunei Dunes State Park. It features several large sand dunes and a couple of lakes. The park is the site of North America's highest single-structured sand dune which is approximately 470 feet high. North America's highest multistructured dune is at...

Jul 29, 2013 - Oregon Trail Interpretive Center

Today we visited the Oregon Interpretive Center. It was located in Baker City, Oregon up a real steep hill. It was very informative. The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center features 12,000 square feet of galleries that transport you along the 2,000 mile journey of the Oregon Trail. It tells the story of the pioneers and the political and social background of the westward migration. The Galleries takes you through the experiences of preparing for the journey, life on the trail, interaction between emigrants and natives, dangers and challenges,...

Jul 24, 2012 - Out for a Couple of Rides

On two separate days we wandered out to see what we could see. Our first destination was to La Grande, OR. The drive to La Grande was mostly up hill & very scenic (in the Blue Mountains), well worth the time. We saw a sign for the town of Meacham, so we thought....lets check it out. You sneeze.....you'll miss it. Our day was quite nice, we stopped in La Grande for lunch at (you guessed it....a Mexican Restaurant - Pete's favorite). The deco in the restaurant(La Fiesta's)was actually quite pretty, so I had to take a few photos. We took a...

Jul 3, 2012 - Emigrant Springs State Park near La Grande, Oregon

I had a very busy day on Saturday, June 30, when I ran multiple errands in Hood River, OR near Ainsworth State Park, well actually 30 miles one way but it had many resources. Groceries, laundromat, Walgreens, veterinarian for Abby's food and a not so good place where I got 2" cut off my hair instead of 3/4". GRRRRR... I got a good start after emptying the tank, hitching the care and taking a shower. I left Ainsworth State Park on Sunday, July 1 and drove a longer day to get here at Emigrant Springs State Park, near La Grande, OR. It's a...

Jul 2, 2012 - On The Road Again

As soon as we entered the state of Oregon, Charles felt at home, which I find odd since he only spent 17 years her and 27 years in San Diego. Eastern Oregon is still rugged but the trees are starting to multiply. I tried to add another city to our "maybe to live list", Baker City, Or. Such a cute town. In order to get gas or food off the highway you have to go thru the town. I think this is very clever on the town's part. It brings more business into the town. The downtown is active. About 10K people (too small for Charles) and they pump...

Jun 16, 2012 - Hot Lake

To Iowa and Beyond! June, 2012 Well the annual Banitt RV trip is underway. For the first time possibly in the history of our RV trips, it was actually hard to leave Portland in the middle of June. Portland emerged from “Junuary” gloom into a beautiful summer day reaching a gorgeous and comfortable mid 70’s temperature. The lure of the open road overcame any reluctance to leave and mid-afternoon found us whizzing out of town to blue skies, relieved kids, happy dogs and relaxed parents. Yay! Our first stop took us almost all the way across...
