Sep 4, 2018 - ready to move on

As planned we spent yesterday at the Shipshewanna Flea Market. This collection of 900 vendors exhibits weekly throughout the summer and has a special market Labor Day week. Parking is convenient on fields all around the market and the really serious shoppers can stay at a campground within walking distance. It's fun to people watch: a combination of folks who look like us and Amish/Mennonite bargain hunters wearing their classic conservative garb. It's been at least five years since we were there and we were surprised to see the same...

Jul 16, 2015 - Lake Erie Islands

July 16 Thursday Lovely day! Drove to Marblehead, OH, saw the lighthouse on the Lake Erie shoreline, and tried to find a beach where we could sit and enjoy the sunshine. Surprisingly, it really wasn't easy to find a beach with sand, but we ended up at East Harbor State Park. It was windy and not really very warm for July (low 70's), but there were a lot of families there and we joined them for awhile. There was a sign on the beach warning bathers “don't swallow the water!” 'Guess the clean-up of Lake Erie has a ways to go.... We were...

Jun 23, 2015 - Marblehead, Ohio

After a long day of driving, including crazy drivers and traffic outside of Chicago, we found a state park on the peninsula of Ohio, right on Lake Eerie. We arrived on Father's Day weekend, and the campground was packed! It was the most full of any campground we had stayed at. There were hundreds of campsites! We stayed at East Harbor State Park which is right on the Lake. The water was really shallow and warm, with a sandy bottom. Only downside were the flies on the beach. They attacked you if you sat there for too long. And at night,...

Presque Isle, MI 6. Mackinac...

From BP to the UP!

Aug 10, 2013 - Home sweet home

We had to be home by Sunday night and since we've become just a little mistrusting of the weather reports, we decided it would best to head home on Saturday. So we headed out bright and early from St. Clair. Luckily it was another clear, beautiful day. We really got to enjoy the sights along the St. Clair River and even took a few short detours to see some places we didn't see on the way up. We had heard many people talking about what a great place Algonac is (the original home of Chris Craft boats) so we just wanted to take a peek. It was...

Our 2013 Summer Trip

Jun 27, 2012 - Hometown Roots-Chapter 2

We just left Pennsylvania, not that we wanted to because we were having so much fun reacquainting and meeting family. We are now officially heading west again, back to California with a few stops in between…. We truly enjoyed our stay at Shenango Valley RV Park, what a gem! We definitely will stay there when we return to the area. We met the owners and they know what it takes to keep us RV’ers happy! It was the perfect base for visiting family and the areas around Sharpsville. One the highlights of this visit was that Dennis was able to...

Aug 25, 2007 - Marblehead, OH

Well we finally landed somewhere. We left Parksville (Campground) on 8/23 and were supposed to drive to Erie,PA. After 6 hrs of driving you would think we would be anxious to park somewhere but we decided to press on to MarbleHead, OH. In total including reststops and meals and a traffic jam we made it to Ohio from NY in 12 hrs. Marblehead is nice but not what we envisioned it would be. We are leaving a day early so we will have an extra day in South Dakota. Our next entry will be from SD
