Jul 2, 2016 - (Jefferson) Ashtabula, OH - Kenisee Lake RV Resort

6/24/16 thru 6/26/16 finds us at the Grand View Bend Coast to Coast Park in Howe, IN. This campground has a different operational twist. The twenty transient sites are all off the main road in and back up to a fence line. You pick a site and later that evening a camp representative stops by and checks you in. Fortunately for us we were able to pick a site near the bath house because our toilet flush handle broke and rendered our toilet “out-of-service”. Since we were unable to find a suitable service facility or a replacement toilet we...

Sep 22, 2013 - TTN Kenisee Lake

This vagabond lifestyle of ours affords the ability to control many aspects of our life. We can control who we live next to, we can control our our scenery, we can control our seasons but not our fuel expense or the weather. Today, we departed in the rain, drove in the rain and setup in the rain. Now, for our non-RV friends, that means Dave gets to enjoy most of the rain with the outside duties of pack-up and set-up. He really doesn't mind it too much as he pretty much resigns himself to getting wet and staying wet. Our drive of 115 miles...

Aug 14, 2013 - Lake Erie

We are in Ashtabula, Ohio. It is a harbor town on Lake Erie. We were here last year. Diana's sister lives in Florida and has a 5th wheel set up in a seasonal campground on the lake. Ken grew up here and knows the area well. It was fun to visit and sit back and relax for a few days. We visited a few covered bridges that we missed last year. I don't think it got above 70 degrees the 5 days we were here. It was cold, damp, and rainy. One evening we had a large downpour with lots of lightning and thunder. Can't wait for some sunshiny days so...

Aug 11, 2012 - Ashtabula, Ohio

It rained a hard steady rain all night. There are breaks in the clouds this morning. We grabbed jackets and headed out for a covered bridge tour. Ashtabula County is known for its many covered bridges. Currently the most (18) of any county in Ohio. Two of the bridges have records of being the longest and shortest in the United States. The longest is 613 feet and is the fourth longest in the world. We managed to visit 7 in a day of driving. We stopped for lunch at a little diner that sold turkey sandwiches. We also visited Ashtabula...

Aug 10, 2012 - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

It rained overnight and is going to rain most of today. Good day to go to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's about 40 miles from where we are staying on the shore of Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Lots of people had the same idea. We were dissapointed that we were not allowed to take pictures. It took us most of the day to go through it. There are seven levels in the building. The first through fifth levels feature many permanent and temporary exhibits documenting the history of rock and roll. Many collections with a lot of...

Arrived at Ken and Shirley's (Diana's sister and husband) around noon. They are in Luoma Surfside Campground, Ashtabula, Ohio. It is a campground with seasonal campsites on Lake Erie. The owners were nice enough to let us park next to Ken and Shirley's 5th Wheel. We hooked up with their water and electric. It was raining when we arrived, then cleared up, however the forecast is for rain the next couple days. We will stay here for the next 4 nights.

Jun 25, 2012 - Ashtabula Harbor Lighthouse

Our last stop for the day was at Point Park in Ashtabula, Ohio to see if we could see the Ashtabula Lighthouse. We found Point Park which overlooks the Ashtabula Harbor and found that we could at least see the lighthouse. The light is located on a long breakwall that doesn't look to safe to walk. The best way to get close to this lighthouse is by boat! The Ashtabula Harbor's lighthouse was established in 1836, and rebuilt again in 1905 and 1916. The light has been automated since 1973 and is still active. The museum was the original...

Our 2012 Travels

Sep 2, 2011 - Ashtabula, Ohio

On the morning of the 28th we left Michigan and headed east. Stopped for the night in Wauseon, OH at Sunnys RV Park again. It is a Passport Park (half price) but unfortunately the half price fee does not count Friday through Sunday. So we paid the full shot for the night. Also, all they had left were water and electric sites but for one night no big deal. While driving east on I-80 we first encountered a caravan of about 15 telephone service trucks that we assumed were heading toward the east coast to assist with the hurricane Irene...

Jun 23, 2011 - More Outings in Ohio

We had accomplished so much during the previous three weeks and we were very glad we were able to spend time with family and friends, but we can only stay 3 weeks at a Thousand Trails park, so it was time to pack it up and hit the road. Because the holiday was coming up, we needed to be in another Thousand Trails park (or pay jacked-up prices at a public campground) so we chose to return to the TT Kenisee Lake preserve located near Jefferson, Ohio, not too far from Lake Erie. We had spent a few days here back in 2008 and had a fun time, so...

Sep 21, 2010 - Covered bridges and covered buggies

After an easy trip from Toledo, we are camped at the Kenisee Lakes Thousand Trails campground near Ashtabula, OH. Although we didn't know what the area had to offer, we decided on 3 nights, and made good use of the days. The campground was beautiful, well kept, had many full hookups and about 4 lakes! This area of NE Ohio has numerous covered bridges, including the longest one in the US. We got to many of them! There was a very helpful brochure on them given to us when we checked in, and I think we must have traversed most of Ashtabula...

May 18, 2010 - A non-descript drive to Ashtabula, Ohio

Tuesday, May 18, drive from Indiana to Ashtabula, Ohio. (50 miles east of Cleveland). Rainy at the start and rainy until 3. High temperature was 51. This bad weather is literally following us, and we want it to stop. I was looking forward to breakfast, because the Inn person said they had a new and improved breakfast. Well, there was a slight new, but no improvement. The new item was western eggs, but they were still lumpy and prefrozen and then micro-waved. Before we hit the interstate, we loaded up with gas at $2.79 for 87 octane. This...
