Jul 11, 2015 - Leaving NC...Now We're Cooking

We left Andy's in Winston-Salem at noon today and are headed up 421 toward I-77. Doug warned us about blasting that was happening on I-40 so we are going up to Virginia and over. I checked with 511 and they said they are also working on tunnels through the mountains. I don't like tunnels in the RV anyway,so we are glad to be seeing some country that we haven't seen in a while. And if you haven't been on I-77 to Virginia from Yadkinville, it is something to see. The hills and valleys with old farms and livestock are idyllic. We appreciated...

May 3, 2014 - Dulcimer Festival

I arrived at the Baptist Church a day early and saw that the whole parking lot is on a hill. I chose the most level area that would only take up 2 parking spaces and attempted to level the coach. After seeing the driver side tires all off the ground, I tried to raise the jacks and think about how many blocks I would need but the jacks wouldn't come up! I called Coach-Net and Kenneth tried to troubleshoot the system with me but it didn't work. He called a mobil RV repair guy who came out around 10 AM on Friday. I should have taken a picture...

Rowan and I are very excited to be preparing for our road trip. As luck would have it, the Nascar boys are in Indy on the same day we are so we'll be heading to the track on Saturday to watch the Nationwide Series. Sunday we just happen to be in Chicago where we now have tickets to the Gold Cup Finals. Go USA! Need to win on Wednesday to make the final in Chicago worthwhile.

Oct 14, 2012 - Salem Lake Trail

This past weekend, we knocked out another one of the 100 Classic Hikes in NC - Salem Lake Trail (#23 in the book) in Winston-Salem. We left in the morning and made the drive out to Winston-Salem, arriving at the park right at 10. We were hoping to see some of the first fall color of the season, but it was a little early. A few trees had started to change with patches of yellow and red among mostly green, but definitely not peak color. Leaving the parking lot, we followed the trail clockwise going behind the dam on a paved trail. Shortly,...

Sep 13, 2012 - Methune, MA to Winston-Salem

September 10-16, 2012 – From Methune, MA to Winston-Salem, North Carolina Again we are trying to catch up with our blog. We headed to Gettysburg to see the new center (we were here in 2005 at the old center), made a short stop at the Martinsville NASCAR track, and then followed the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Winston-Salem. On the ridge of the Parkway we met some birders who were counting hawks as they migrated, they said they have counted as many as 25,000 hawks in a single day. Walter, Lowell’s brother and Rose have 5 children, Rosalie,...

2012 travel

Jun 1, 2011 - The part came in!

The part for the hot water heater came in last week and has been installed. We are doing last minute things-Nicky was groomed this morning and has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. We are told that Nicky's health record must be as up-to-date as possible to enter Canada. We have been packing the camper and filling every nook and cranny. I have taken some pictures of the camper inside so you can get the feel of what we will be living in for the next several months. One of the best things about camping is that your living space extends...

101022-Today we stayed at the rally and did not put any miles on the MH. We did buy three foam fire extinguishers and put 2 of them in the bedroom closets and 1 in a kitchen cabinet. We also bought and installed 2 smoke alarms. We put one in the bedroom and removed the one up front and replaced it with a new one. we are going to eat dinner and then go to a Country-Western concert. It should be a lot better than last night. I can't believe how many personal handicapped vehicles there are. There must be about 100.

101021-Thu-We did not put on any miles today. We are still at the rally in Winston-Salem. We did have coffee & donuts this morning. There are hundreds of motorhomes here [they say 600], but we have one of the best parking places for no services. There were free hot dogs, chips and water for lunch, put on by one of the dealers. I am running the generator now, charging things up. I am attaching pictures of the hundreds of motorhomes. We went to a fire safety seminar, ate dinner, and then went to the concert. It wasn’t very good and we left...

Blessed To Travel

Sep 18, 2009 - Old Salem, NC

Rainy, rainy, rainy but it didn't totally spoil our day. We got in a few hours at Old Town Salem. We planned on leaving in the morning to Appomattox, VA but the RV park we are going to is full tomorrow night so we will be staying here another night. Which is fine since there is football on tomorrow and we would rather do that than pack up and drive.
