May 30, 2020 - Waynesville, NC - Trails End RV Park
Our trip from Athens, TN to our summer home at Trails End RV Park in Waynesville, NC took us on a 143 mile trip through the Smokies with a stop for fuel just before we entered North Carolina to give the Mothership a drink. We did have one casualty of the trip - as we were rounding one of the curves through the mountains, our bottom kitchen drawer containing about 30 pounds of food cans decided to let loose, flying out and the force of the many cans knocking the front of the drawer off spilling all the cans all over the kitchen. We luckily...Jump to full entry
Oct 28, 2019 - Waynesville, NC - Trails End RV Park
Well, our summer in the mountains has come to an end. We will be leaving tomorrow to start our journey home. The last couple of weeks has seen the leaves turning here and they are beautiful. I have included some pictures we took up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and also a few from our campground. The weather has also turned brisk with frost a couple of mornings and cool days as well. Our first stop going home will be at the Freightliner Custom Chassis Service Center in Gaffney, SC to get the annual maintenance done on the Mothership.Jump to full entry
Sep 23, 2019 - Waynesville, NC - Trails End RV Park
It's hard to believe that almost two months have passed since our last entry!! We had quite a bit of company during August with our daughter Michelle coming up for a week then our daughter Misty, and our grandson Ish, coming up with Misty staying a few days then leaving Ish with us for three weeks while she went back to work in Va at her school. We took Ish to a couple of places we knew he would enjoy. First was the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club in Hendersonville, NC about an hour from our RV park. They have a really nice layout with...Jump to full entry
Sep 22, 2019 - Laid back weekend
Saturday we were up early because we had decided to go into Asheville to visit an AT&T store to get a new device to enhance our internet connections. Ziva and I went for our walk at 8:45. I got a couple of pictures of the morning fog. This may be why they call this the Smokey Mountains. The air is so moist that when the sun breaks through you can see the water particles in the sunlight. We left and headed for the AT&T company store on the east side of Asheville, not far from the Biltmore. After some conversation with the store staff, we...Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2019 - Back at Trails End
We are back in North Carolina at the Trails End RV Park. We are seven miles from Waynesville and only 2.5 miles from Maggie Valley. This is where we are for the next month. Wednesday we were up and around at Harrison Bay State Park at a reasonable hour and enjoying the cooler temperatures in the morning. Now by lunch the temperatures were up where they had been in both Alabama and Arkansas. We got out of the park in the early afternoon. We made a few stops, including complicated ones at both Lowe's and Home Depot. The last time we were at...Jump to full entry
Aug 6, 2019 - Time in the cool is running down...
Our time here at Trails End is quickly coming to an end...this time. We are scheduled to move to River Plantation in Sevierville, TN on Thursday. We are continuing to enjoy our stay here and feel reasonably sure we will be back here in a month or so. We think we want to be here as the leaves change. Saturday we planned on putting up the screen we had ordered that attaches to the patio awning. We were outside getting everything out of the boxes and setting up to start the installation when Tony, one of the managers here drove by in his 57...Jump to full entry
Aug 2, 2019 - Life is cool in North Carolina
It has been tough on us trying to adjust to the temperatures in North Carolina. We are in a cycle where we are experiencing pop up showers almost every afternoon. It leaves the temperatures in the upper 60's. Then lows drop to the low 60's or even upper 50's. We have had to come in the Bus and not sit outside very late in the evening. Sunset is now in the later 8:00 p.m. hour. After we walk down and feed the horses around 8:00 we have been sitting out on the patio area and enjoying the beauty of our surroundings. Alas, some evenings have...Jump to full entry
Jul 29, 2019 - Slowed Down...
After the outing on Saturday...we slept in on Sunday morning. Slow getting around, late walk with Ziva and settling in for the day. Sue has a stiff back so getting out is not much of an option. I was out for a few minutes on a trip to Lowe's and then back. I spent some time later in the afternoon installing some new quick connect fittings for all the hoses and filters and softener. With that done I spent some time outside watching television. The golf tournament in Memphis is always of interest to me since I was able to attend a tournament...Jump to full entry
Jul 27, 2019 - Busy last four days...
The last four days have gone by quickly. It has been nice and cool over the last few days with an occasional shower but nothing stormy like earlier in the week. To say we have enjoyed the low 50 degree nights would be an understatement. The upper 60's and low 70's in the daytime have been a blessing after the high heat indexes we enjoyed in central Arkansas. The real cool time is over after tonight. This is the last night with the lows in the 50's. After tonight the low's move up to the low 60's through the time we will stay here. We will...Jump to full entry
Jul 23, 2019 - Try Again...
A couple of things that have become evident in our few days here outside of Maggie Valley, NC. One, I have not adjusted to the eastern time zone, as it is always later than I think it should be. Second, the internet connections are horrible, at the best of times. Other than those two items, we love this place. Sunday was a repeat of Saturday in that I spent a lot of the morning outside drinking coffee and watching the British Open. Early, Ziva and I went for our morning walk and the cows in the pasture were coming in to the feed bin. Ziva...Jump to full entry
Jul 20, 2019 - First full day in the mountains
The first day we can sleep in...and I am awake at 7:00 a.m. But, it is also the first day the weather will let me drink coffee outside on the patio area. Ziva and I went for a walk and I was able to get a picture of the fog or "smokey" look over the mountains. I also got a picture of the creek running behind the Bus. When we returned I was able to sit outside in the wonderful upper 60 degree temperature while drinking coffee and watching the British Open. It was wonderful until I had to come in and fix breakfast. Sue and I spent time...Jump to full entry
Jul 19, 2019 - And we are here...
Well, to be truthful it seems like a year since we made these reservations. While in fact it was only a month or so ago...as the heat increased, the time until we were to leave seemed to get farther away. But our time in Arkansas was well spent. Helping where we could and being there to participate in the girls activities. We loved being able to help and be a support for the problems cancer brings on everyone. But for the time being Beth is better and awaiting surgery next month. We will be back for that and to help in any way we can. It...Jump to full entry
