May 7, 2017 - Mrytle Beach, SC to Topsail Island, NC

May 7, 2017 Rained overnight but nice this morning, in fact a cloudless sky. I was up early for shower, laundry etc. and took advantage of the early quiet with a nice walk. We took it easy reading the NYT before driving up the coast on Hwy 17 into NC. We planned to stay in a KOA near Wilmington. Along the way we saw notices that they were shuttling people into Wilmington because of an event which turned out to be a golf tournament. I called the KOA to see if they had space. That did for $110 which is outrageous.! On to Plan B by looking at...

Nov 19, 2013 - Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

The Map Location tool had nothing that matched Camp Lejeune, so I had to use Surf City, even though we didn't stay there. It will give a good indication of our coastal route. Days 259 - 260 of The Big Trip On the 18th, the drive was so short, we waited until we absolutely had to before leaving our RV spaces. Checkout time was 11:00am and that's when we left. We couldn't get an Internet connection last night, so I wasn't able to do my update! The weather was TERRIBLE on Hatteras Island, and we spent a long night in 30-40 mph winds and driving rain. Well, I spent a long night listening to the wind, rain and John snoring! He was sleeping like a baby... The weather was pretty gloomy yesterday, but we were able to get out and explore the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We visited two lighthouses...the first was Bodie Island (the stripes are circular). This lighthouse was actually the third attempt to...

Nov 25, 2007 - Williamston - Surf City

Our 'friend' who had to race to get here before us, peels out of the RV park half an hour before we leave, so we don't have to worry about him being on our tail! We will be following Hwy 17 past Jacksonville to the coast, where we plan to stay overnight around Surf City. It is not a large distance today; Steve & Connor both have a nasty sinus cold. We want to keep moving, so if we get further south and closer to the coast, the weather is warmer and we want to follow the coastline. And this afternoon the Grey Cup is on tv; we need to be...
