May 4, 2019 - Time for an update

Before we left Nashville, we decided to go to the Parthenon in Centennial Park. Centennial Park was developed for the (1897) centennial celebration of Nashville (hence the name). They built temporary buildings so Nashville could show off a bit so they could attract more residents. They built one temporary building that looks like a Parthenon from Greece. The Parthenon was very successful and the residents liked it so much that they decided to make it a permanent piece of Nashville. So after several renovations, it is now a museum. The...

Sep 29, 2018 - North Carolina - into our second month of travel

Left historic Williamsburg and the hosts with the most - arriving at Statesville KOA just north of Charlotte. Intention was to attend the Charlotte NASCAR race but that didn't pan out. Thank goodness for R2 - we got to sit in air-conditioned comfort, watch the races and hear the commentary - think we made the right choice. Campground was a little crowded as it was race weekend and this campground was about 30 mins from the track - still a good place although close to the highway, so a little noisy. Again, with the heat and humidity, the a/c...

Oct 17, 2017 - Thorlo socks

We now have ATT cell service - could not get the ATT at all in Galax. We are here for 1 night, mainly for the purpose of visiting the Thorlo sock outlet and breaking up the drive back. The factory is in Statesville also but the outlet is in a small retail center - I did not recognize it at first. It was great to visit however as I really prefer Thorlo socks. They had all types on display as well as the seconds and ones whose color, design, etc. were being discontinued. I got several pairs and Ray got a pair of golf socks - we'll see if they...

Nov 23, 2015 - Charlotte Avaition Museum

Date: November 23, 2015 Weather: sunny, cold Temperature: start 27º High 49º Wildlife count: Year List: 319 Birds: We arrived at Lee and Karen’s home around 9:30 and left for the Charlotte Aviation Museum. Can’t believe that we spent 2 ½ hours there! It was amazing. The Miracle on the Hudson plane was there, and we spent the entire time learning about the events that day in January, 2009. Not only was it interesting, but also very emotional. The plane was bound for Charlotte and had many passengers from Charlotte aboard. Capt. Sully had...

Nov 22, 2015 - Sunday worship and relaxation

Date: November 22, 2015 Weather: sunshine, cold Temperature: start 43º High 49º Wildlife count: Year List: 319 Birds: We enjoyed worship with Lee and Karen this morning at The Cove Church, a non-denomination mega-church in Mooresville, with many campuses around the world. The music was loud, with lights flashing in rock band style. However, the 600+ in attendance related and connected to the music, and the words celebrated faith in Jesus. The message was long, but excellent, with most everyone relating to the stories – we included. I...

Jun 19, 2014 - Lexington, SC and Statesville, NC

We spent 10 days at the Barnyard RV Park in Lexington, South Carolina just outside of Columbia, the state capital. We stayed here 5 years ago on our way south. Despite it’s name, Barnyard is a very nice campground, actually the nicest one we have been to so far on this summers trip, there are a few resident geese on the grounds but that’s as close as it gets to being a barnyard. The campground is located right behind the Barnyard Flea Market, a large flea market that is open every weekend. There is also another large flea market in the...

No Snow For Us

Dec 3, 2013 - Reunited

Finally we are back with IRVing. Our reunion was delayed by TWO more days because Jack told the Service Department Person he'd been dealing with that we would be there Saturday as driving from TN. When we arrived at 3:20 pm, IRVing was ready but Service Department was closed and no one in sales had a key to service. When asked what they'd do in case of fire we were told that the fire department would have to open it. Needless to say we were LIVID as they were also not open on Sunday. Fortunately, Michelle and family had invited us to stay...

Oct 10, 2012 - First day out

KOA campground-Statesville, NC. Wednesday We spent Monday and Tuesday loading the coach at home. This morning we had breakfast in the coach, in our driveway. It was 0945 when we got away. Stopped at Clyde's on 301 for some gas to get us to Columbia, SC. We stopped there and topped off, about 15 cents cheaper than the 'boro. Then went to a nearby Cracker Barrel for lunch. They have RV parking slots in the back. It was a bit foggy at home, and cloudy most of the way to Columbia. Then the skies opened up and we had sunshine the rest of the...

Our Dream Trip

Sep 25, 2011 - Statesville, NC

We are finally heading west! Home! That sounds so good! Now will be on I-40 clear into New Mexico. Drove through 100 miles of almost non-stop population we really weren't anticipating. There are several cities strung together along this stretch with lots of traffic even for a Sunday - Raleigh, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, Winston-Salem are really close together. This will be an overnight stop for us which turns out to be about 50 miles north of Charlotte.
