Nov 18, 2014 - Good Bye Lake Norman - Hello Warmer Weather

We’re done here! Lake Norman RV Resort will have to find someone else to do the reservations, weed-whacking, rose pruning, and deck staining. It’s been fun being in NC from April through October, but we’re taking November and December off. We are especially thankful that we could spend time with the kids and grandkids, and more so for when Ken was in the hospital this summer. He is, at this time, in full recovery mode. On Nov 1, we embarked (without the RV) on a trip north – to Manchester, Connecticut to see my Mom who has just celebrated...

Oct 25, 2014 - Winding Down here at Lake Norman

Well, our 2014 workamping is coming to a close at Lake Norman RV Resort. Our last workday is Oct. 31. I’ve actually not been working since the middle of September. When the new managers, Gail and John, arrived the owner decided he didn’t need me in the office anymore as Gail would be working those days and as she and John are working full time, he wanted to make sure she had plenty to do. So instead of each of us (Rick and I) working two 8 hour days, he assigned Rick to work three 8 hour days and me to work none. I wasn’t happy about this,...

Aug 30, 2014 - It's Official -- We are Full-Timers

Just a quick update of the life and times of Rick and Betsy Hubbell. WE ARE NOW OFFICIALLY FULLTIMERS!!!! This past week we made a trip back to our home in Fannin County, GA to sign the leasing papers for our house. As there are sub-division-wide legal problems affecting our ability to sell the house, we decided to rent it. It went on the rental market 2 weeks ago and was immediately inundated with people who wanted to rent it. It is being handled by a property management company so all we had to do is say yes or no to the applicants after...

Aug 17, 2014 - Another Update from the Hubbells

Time sure flies when you are having fun. Can’t believe we have been at Lake Norman for 4 months. The last Saturday in July, we had Ken, Trudie, Isaac, Darby and a friend of theirs, Mike over for a picnic and a boat ride in one of the campground’s pontoon boat. Getting to use the boat for just the price of gas used is one of the perks for working here. (We really should take advantage of it more.) Had a really nice picnic at the camper then out in the boat for about an hour and half ride. Had a great time cruising and looking at all the huge...

Jul 25, 2014 - Some of our Doings

I know it has been a long while since we sent out an update so I will give you a synopsis of what has been going on in our lives In June we had most of the family here for a picnic. Only Trudie and Darby were missing as they were in Asheville at the Biltmore celebrating Darby’s 16th birthday. Then on Father’s Day Rick went on a “dig” for rocks and gems with son Bryan. The rest of the month was just work and hanging around the campground. The beginning of July found us spending several days going back and forth to Charlotte to the hospital...

May 26, 2014 - Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day 2014! Last week, our friends from Dollywood – Mike and Sue Litaker – came up from King’s Mountain NC to visit and they brought their pontoon boat with them. We launched right here at the campground and then spent a wonderfully relaxing afternoon cruising the lake’s coves and looking at the Castles on the Lake. For the most part, these homes are large, very large, with docks and boats, beautiful, and obviously very expensive. There is also a smattering of homes that have been here since before the lake became so popular....

May 4, 2014 - Settled in and work begins

Since the last update we started working a 4:30 to 8:30 pm shift Monday - Thursday as a trial run. It seemed like a good idea at the time but we have found that that is the slowest time of the day for things happening in the office or around the park. Rick was able to do some weed-whacking and lawn mowing but only up to around 7ish as the management doesn’t like equipment being run too late. If anyone who had reserved a campsite for that day arrived, then Rick would escort them to their site or if anyone stopped by who wanted to see the...

Apr 14, 2014 - Our Arrival at Lake Norman

Greetings from Sherrills Ford NC! We left Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park in Cordele GA on March 28, arriving safely in Morganton GA, site of our still-not-sold-but-available house. While there, we held a very successful 2-day “moving sale”. We sold a lot and donated a lot more. And we also sold our 2006 RAM 2500 and our 2010 Ford Fusion, trading into a sharp 2010 RAM 3500 with only 56K miles, a 6.7 liter diesel, dual wheel rear axles - it’s a monster of a truck which will haul our RV anywhere it points to. I feel much safer with this...

Apr 6, 2010 - North Carolina....and more

After leaving St. Augustine on 4/1, we continued our trip north and east. We stopped for an overnight in St. George, SC at Jolly Acres RV park. The park was located about 5 miles off of I-95. This park was quite nice and very quiet. We arrived at Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort in Sherrills Ford, NC on Friday 4/2.(just outside of Mooresville, NC) This park was located about 10 miles off of I-77 on Highway 150. This was a small park right on part of Lake Norman. While in this area we spent time with Chris LaFlamme and Debbie Newell, high...
