Oct 26, 2012 - Day Twenty-One Morehead City, NC to Shelby, North Carolina

Left this am at 9:50 after breakfast with Graysons from Asheville. Temp 68 with gray skies. Tropical storm Sandy is on the way and expected to hit New England in next few days. Goal today was to get to Maiden, NC and look at a restored 1972 Datsun 240Z and then head to Shelby,NC for a visit with Butch's uncle and first cousin, Becky. Lunch at 3 pm in Troy, NC. Pulled pork BBQ and barbecue slaw, smothered chicken. Guess who had what. Unusual fields of sunflowers in Mt. Pleasant. Arrived at Maiden at 6 pm. Very nice restored Zcar. Arrived at...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

May 6, 2007 - Franklin, North Carolina

We arrived in Franklin, North Carolina on Monday, which is located in the western part the state. Franklin is known for it Gem Mines. In these mines they find rubies and sapphires. We have gone to two of them and did some mining but have not found anything large enough to brag about. We hope to have better luck this coming week as we are spending two weeks here. We are thirty miles south of the Smokey Mountain National Park. The park got it name because there is a blue color to the air over the park and the Indians thought it looked like...

Jun 19, 2006 - Foothills Family Camp near Forest City, NC

We moved on to the Foothills Family Camp Resort just over the border into North Carolina. It was a nice enough park but nothing special. I did, however, get information about Passport America, another discount camping membership that we joined. It gives 50% off the regular rates at a lot of camps.
