May 8, 2017 - Topsail Island to Sealevel, NC

May 8, 2017 Today is an absolutely gorgeous day at the beach. I had some “Sonoma work” to do, finances etc. so we really did not get on the road until 11:00. From the Topsail spit we had to wind our way around Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune which is huge, 246 square miles. The base has 14 miles of prime beaches that they use for amphibious assault training and its location between Wilmington and Morehead City, two deep-water ports allow for fast deployments. We are on Hwy 24 east driving along Croatan National Forest/Theodore Roosevelt...

Nov 16, 2007 - Ocracoke and Sealevel

11/15 - 16 Ocracoke Island, Cedar Island, and the Intercoastal Waterway. When we left Hatteras Island, we decided to take the ferries down along the island chain. It is a 40 minute free ride across Hatteras Inlet to Ocracoke Island. The ferries on this route are fairly small, room enough for 20 or 30 cars, but tight for a big pickup and a 25 foot trailer - especially if there are a couple of semis that also want to go! Ocracoke Island is all national seashore except for the small village at the south end. This island also has "wild ponies"...
