Jul 20, 2019 - Roanoke Rapids NC, RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads"

After a lot of work and planning, we departed Garden City SC heading north to VT. Temps were hot (upper 90’s) as we headed to our first stop over in Roanoke Rapids NC. We arrived in the afternoon and had a nice level pull through site with 50 amp service. Thank goodness as temps were bordering 100!! Our neighbors to the right of us were a couple of ladies that were traveling in a beautiful AirStream camper. They were heading to Virginia Beach. In the end, we exchanged contact info and we have an invite to visit them at their house in Key...

Roanoke is a 2-day stop for rest and camper maintenance. We will be storing it when we get home so Janet did a lot of cleaning. I worked on a few things thinking they wouldn't take long, then discovered a missing nut in the suspension with the spring eye-bolt slipping half-way out! I worked to re-insert the bolt, then went to get a replacement nut. I found similar nuts and bolts that were also loose, which I tightened. When I was done I was happy to have been able to fix it and wondering how it would hold till we got home. I checked them...

Dec 14, 2018 - Heading South

Heading out at 9AM as planned and down US-13 on the Delmarva peninsula. It's foggy this morning but not bad enough to hamper the trip. By the time we reach the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel the fog has burned off and it's cloudy clear. So far the rain hasn't made it this far East. We pass through Virginia Beach around noon time so traffic is pretty light. Heading West on US-58 we meet up with light rain around 1 o'clock. As we get closer to I-95 we're beginning to notice piles of snow on the sides of the road from last weekend's snowstorm...

Winter2018-2019

Dec 2, 2018 - Roanoke Rapids, NC

This is a nice campground near the northern border of North Carolina. We planned a two day layover here because it is a long 343 mile drive from Clarksboro and we expected to be tired. We need a couple of days off mixed in along the way on these trips. I have a few things to do on the camper and some errands to run. All the way to North Carolina on the second day! We have re-discovered the Cracker Barrel Restaurant! Outstanding local cuisine would always be a priority, but in a pinch when there is none to be found we will be looking for...

May 7, 2017 - On the Way

Well Hi, everybody! I didn’t do a blog last year and that was probably a good thing! We had lots of little irratants, and then had to cut the trip short when Marvin ended up in the hospital in Michigan with pancreatitis. He recovered quickly and we made it home with no problem. He had gall bladder surgery soon after we arrived home and has done well since. So here we are, on the road again and very excited to be here! We started our trip on April 30th when we drove to Jupiter to celebrate the wedding of our grandson Tyler and his bride...

Dec 28, 2016 - Roanoke Rapids, NC

The adventure continues. The temperatures were in the very low 30's overnight, so we have a fogged up windshield as we start to leave this morning. And so we find that our windshield wipers are not working at all. It's a beautiful day traveling down US-13 and over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Happily we meet very little traffic in Virginia Beach and Norfolk and are soon on our way West on VA-58. It's clear sailing all the way and we arrive at the campground in 4:30 and 215 miles. We're very familiar with this location and head off to...

Sep 21, 2016 - 'Gone to Carolina

While Sue visited Ryleigh, I managed to get a number of things done in our short stay at home including pulling some of the worst weeds from around the house. We had the lawn cut, but should have had someone take care of weeding. We dropped Winnie at the shop early yesterday and had the Throttle Position Sensor repaired or replaced. Don't know which because the folks at the shop were gone by the time we got there to pick up Winnie. I don't care which it was because ole Winnie is running better than ever. I now know the TPS must have been in...

Mon, 23 May: Another day, another Wally... Now that the weather has cooled (or have we driven sufficiently north?) we are back to spending our overnites at Wal*Marts. Last evening was at the Wally in Dillon SC and this is being written at the Wally in Roanoke Rapids NC. Wallys are always convenient and (mostly) easy in easy out with minimal fuss. They can be somewhat noisy, but that's what ear plugs are for. Shortly after heading to bed a thunder cell went thru with heavy rain and some hail. It didn't linger so we enjoyed a restful nite. We...

2016 Travels

Jan 23, 2015 - Roanoke Rapids, NC

Leaving 2 days early was worth it. We chose to drive the road less traveled: down the Delmarva Peninsula and across the Chesapeake Bat Bridge-Tunnel. We really thought that Baltimore and Washington would be a nightmare due to weekday traffic. After crossing the Chesapeake we got a little taste of heavy metro traffic in Norfolk and Virginia Beach and concluded that we chose wisely. We are enjoying the 40 degree and rainy weather. Got some Carolina BBQ for supper. The campground here is just off I-95 and does a lot of business with RV's of...

Sep 8, 2014 - rain

Got up this morning still in the woods and rain starting to come down. Normally we set if it's raining but I was ready to get back to light. It was so dark in the woods that during the day you had to turn lights on to see in the trailer. I'm really spoiled I like 50 amp, Satellite TV, concrete or grass we didn't have any of that their. We only moved 115 miles but boy did it rain and it's still raining. Another safe day thank you Lord We are at The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads in Roanoke Rapids NC. It is a real nice campground with all...

Don't wake me up

Dec 17, 2013 - North Carolina!

Busy day heading down the east coast! It's always crazy getting around D.C. but add some snow squalls and cold weather....well, you get the picture. But, once we arrived at tonights's stop - bliss! It was 60 degrees when we pulled into the RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads in Roanoke Rapids. Best of all, there is a sign when you pull in that says: "Yes, you can wash your rig" Bliss, indeed. Mike took advantage of their generous policy and hosed off all the undercarriage of the Trek and Jeep. Tomorrow morning we will give them a good wash...

Another day and another border crossing. Back in N Carolina now and heading south. Thru the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area with its tunnel/bridge combination and viewing the world's largest Naval base. Lots of firepower there for sure. Rolling countryside of Southern Virginia and into N Carolina. Have 6 days to go 165 miles so will have to pick up the pace lol. See the north in areas is getting a good whack of snow, ouch for first of May. Still seeing Canadians heading north from Florida. Lots of talk of gas taking a big drop down here we are...
