Apr 4, 2016 - Heading Home

April 2 - 5 Heading Home Part of our reasoning for driving Tom’s Ford Focus car to Florida was based on the high cost of a car rental during our time in Sanibel. It was Easter week and the cost was over $1,000 for the same size car! Even with the cost of parking at Miami cruise port and the cost of hotel stays along the way down and back up, we were ahead cost wise. But part of the reason for driving was so we could visit with friends and relatives on the way back. If we had used the RV and towed the car behind, we could have saved the...

Nov 29, 2015 - Last day to visit

Date: Date: November 29, 2015 Weather: mostly cloudy, a shower at the end of the day Temperature: start 53º High 64º Wildlife count: Year List: 319 Birds: Our last day with Lee and Karen – we met at their home at 8:30 and went to visit the girl’s homes. Both of the girls and their families live south of the Charlotte city center, so enjoyed a drive around the city – Lee driving, of course, because he knew where he was going. First stop was Jess and Jake’s home, a beautiful home, where we played with Evaline in her Princess Sophia outfit....

What an amazing drive up through the foothills – none of the roads we drove are on a map! We stopped at the Mitchell, an incredibly clear trout stream, with beautifully colored rocks showing through the ripples. We looked for...

Nov 27, 2015 - R & R

Date: November 27, 2015 Weather: sunny Temperature: start 45º High 71º Wildlife count: Year List: 319 Birds: Eastern Phoebe This was a totally relax day, well except for cleaning the RV. After yesterday’s joy-filled time with family, and I think I overdid a little, it was great to just take it easy. Following our cleaning in spurts, we sat outdoors in the sunshine and let the sun bake. Later we had a bite of lunch – a great turkey sandwich and walked around the campground. We sat at a picnic table overlooking the lake in one of the open...

The pie baked in the oven and the cobbler in the convection oven – both were terrific. Around 1pm, we arrived at Lee and Karen’s and enjoyed helping with the preparation for dinner. There was also plenty of time to play with Evaline and Ava – we took walks and enjoyed a ride in a wheelbarrow. Dinner around 4:30 was...

Oct 13, 2008 - Nascar, Nascar...oh, Yes, More Nascar!

Writing from Greensboro Campground, Greensboro, NC Can you guess what we did today? Yeah, bet you all wish you were me! Not one, not two….but FIVE NASCAR facilities! We did Roush Fenway, Concord, NC; Waltrip Racing World, Cornelius, NC; Dale Earnhardt, Inc., JR Motorsports, and Penske Racing all in Mooresville, NC. They all were very interesting. But Waltrip we’d say was the best. There was a $15.00 tour fee, but really got you “behind the scenes”. Got to check out my Mom’s favorite kid, Carl Edwards at Roush. Since she lives north of...

Sep 1, 2008 - Mooresville, North Carolina

Wow lots of driving today, put me in good shape for more to come. Got lost a few times, but the GPS on my iPhone bailed me out. Today was my NASCAR adventure. Started out early and headed to Lowes Motor Speedway. This track will seat 171,000 and they get another 35,000 in the infield. This place is huge and the banking in the corners is incredible. I thought the van I was in would tumble over. Due to the Labor Day holiday, many of the race shops were closed for the day. However the shop of my favorite driver (Dale Jr) was open, so all was...
